Beginning preparations for Warlords of Draenor

Last week, Blizzard had a big shin dig to announce the release date of the Warlords of Draenor expansion. Based on the number of subscriptions and the people who have left, I am sure there will be a huge swell of people flocking into the game to give the expansion a try come November 13th,but I wanted to get a head start. While it has been quite a few months since I played WoW with any consistency (what am I talking about, it's been almost 2 years), having skipped most of the Panda raiding, Pokemon fighting, and dinosaur grinding, I want to give WoD a serious play. To that end, I am going to start a new character and level them up. I know I can get a boosted level 90 character, but I want the experience of grinding from level 1 (I think).

Meet Vagari, my Tauren Druid.

She has taken on the quest of reaching max level. At the end of this mission, she will join my other Tauren Druid as my only max level characters in any game. Why another Druid? I suppose because I enjoy their gameplay, versatility, and ability to transform into a cat, bear, bird, or tree. I like that they can take on any role in the trinity and even DPS as melee or ranged. Also, since it has been so long since I last ran any character in WoW, I want to relearn how to play my current Resto Druid – as I recall, the class is not a simple 4 button rotation.

My goal is to get to max level before the expansion drops in November, but we'll see how that goes. I also want to try out tanking – I usually run as a healer and leveled my current Druid as feral so this will be something new for me. Looking at that big bear butt may grow old, but I want to give it a try. My current plan is to focus on questing, doing the dungeons as part of the normal grind, not a the only means of advancement – last time, I leveled past quite a lot of content in the dungeons and I'd like to explore the world this time around.

I also want to be ready for the expansion. When the Pandas came to town, I basically was relearning my Druid while going through the new content – not very conducive to site seeing. Further, I was working with a Balance spec for the first time and trying to figure out the whole eclipse rotation and such. With Warlords, I want to be prepared so if there is another Brewfest trinket or max level event, I will know what I am doing.

So without further ado, I am jumping back into Camp Narache in Mulgore…tomorrow.

This is post 20 in my Blaugust Challenge.

  1. Congrats on your new Druid! To me, Mulgore is the most beautiful Horde starting area and running through the grasslands on a fresh character, one without guild or raiding entanglements, and with limitless potential is nothing short of exhilarating. Enjoy!
