Endings and Sales

With the Thanksgiving weekend upon us in the U.S., we are well on our way into the holiday season. As 2014 heads into the new year, the holidays bring endings and sales. Marvel, LoL, and the Walking Dead are all marking beginnings or endings. Marvel Comics has a sale on their great Marvel Unlimited digital service which I think is a good opportunity to try it out if you haven't already. The League of Legends season is over – I ended up in Bronze for the 4th season – and they are starting up the preseason with frustration. Finally, the Walking Dead ends the year with a shocking mid-season finale.

Cyber Marvel Unlimited Week

This week, for 'cyber Monday' or buy lots of stuff week, Marvel Unlimited is only $0.75 for your first month.

I'd definitely recommend you try this out. I've been reading comics on my iPad from Marvel Unlimited for a couple of months now and have really been enjoying it. Similar to Kindle, I can carry tons of comics around with me on my iPad or iPhone and the display is pretty good. You might not get access to current comics until they are a few months old, but you can read plenty of back issues for a monthly fee rather than dishing out lotsa money for the physical copies. I'm reading Captain America – The Winter Soldier from 2004 right now and I don't have to worry about finding issues from a comic book store and the monthly cost will easily be less than buying the whole story arc. Plus, I don't have room to store all the comics I already own, much less all the ones I want to read.

League of Frustration

I've been playing a bunch of League of Legends lately, but with the latest 4.20 patch, they are pissing me off. Ever since I decided to work at getting better in the game, I have been watching replays of my games. Well, with patch 4.20 they broke the replay capabilities. This breaking is not only of the software I currently use – Baron Replays, where I get messages that the software cannot find the game id – it also breaks LoLReplays which might say it is recording, but it does not allow me to play the recordings.

How do they expect players to improve if they do not provide a recording mechanism and they keep changing the API to break third party solutions. Riot needs to get their act together – either add a replay ability to the game (you already have specator mode) or maintain consistency in your API code.

The End for Some

We live in times where anyone can die on TV. No longer are we able to blindly watch a show and know that regardless of how bad the situation is, the main characters will survive.

Game of Thrones has killed off kings, wannabe kings, and heads of households. No one is too important in the show to die.

Ned Stark's death was a surprise

Lost ended with essentially everyone dead, and the Sopranos ended with the strong implication that some of the main family might not have made it to the next episode if there was one.

Even companions of a timelord are not safe – Amy Pond.

Not even the Doctor could save her

While current shows have no problem killing off characters left and right, it was not too long ago that only the bad guys or peripheral characters had anything to worry about.

Needless to say, someone important died in The Walking Dead mid-season finale on Sunday. I'm not sure the death was necessary, but it definitely shocked me. I thought the whole situation was going to resolve peacefully, but now-a-days, you never know.

If you haven't seen it yet, definitely go check it out – fire up that Tivo or the Internet and watch one of the best shows on television today, and after watching consider whether the walking dead of the title are the zombies or those people running around trying to make a society/family, but who keep dying off.

  1. Hey I just noticed that you’ve gotten back to posting a bunch and I saw your frustration with not being able to watch replays of your games. Have you tried using something like Xsplit? You can record or stream your games with that, and then watch them later on your computer (if you recorded) or on twitch or whereever you stream to. Just a suggestion!
