Few Games, Little Movement

There were only 4 games today impacting the West but there was a bit of movement in the standings as some teams won and of course some teams lost. Colorado moved up a notch in the Wild card standings by taking down the Padres 4–3. They did it in dramatic fashion as first baseman Ian Desmond smacked a 2-run walk-off homer. Oakland on the other hand fell half a game further behind Houston in the AL with a loss to the Twins.

Khris Davis swings for his 39th HR, Davis prepares to take the HR lead, Ian Desmond hits a walk-off HR, Madison Bumgarner talking about his performance, Jose Pirela knocks in 2 for the Padres, Bumgarner strikes out 8 in victory

Padres 3, Rockies 4
Giants 3, Mets 1
Athletics 4, Twins 6

It was a light schedule Thursday as everyone seemed to be getting ready for the weekend series but there were still a few games involving the West including the Padres and Rockies game. The ending of that one was fun to watch though I was kinda pulling for the Padres, living in San Diego and all. In that game, Jose Pirela went 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs for the Pads but it was Desmond’s day with his game winning home run.

In New York, Madison Bumgarner gave up a run and 5 hits over 8 innings but picked up his 5th win of the season. His one mistake was a home run to Todd Frazier in the 7th. And in Minnesota, Khris Davis smacked his MLB leading 39th HR on the year but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Twins.

Player of the Day: Padres’ Jose Pirela 3 for 5, 2 RBI
Pitcher of the Day: Giants’ Madison Bumgarner – 8 innings, 1 ER, 8 K
