Relatively Quiet Day

Thursday was a reletively quiet day in the West as there were only 2 teams that played. Actually, there were only 4 games total in MLB so it was quite all around. Even so, the Diamondbacks lost some ground in the division by losing in 10 innings to Atlanta. Paul Goldschmidt tried to push the team over the top but his 3–5 night and HR were not enough as the Zack Greinke gave up 4 earned runs and the bullpen couldn’t hold a late game lead.

In Cincinnati, the Padres demonstrated what next season might look like as 22 year old Francisco Mejia smacked the first 2 home runs of his career. His 2 for 4, 4 RBI game was more than enough to carry San Diego to victory. But then, Eric Lauer did his job as well, keeping the Reds in check by not allowing a run over 4 innings. He struck out 8 and turned the game over to the bullpen who kept the Padres primed for the win.

With only 2 games it’s not a surprise both of my daily awards go to players on the same team…

Player of the Day: Francisco Mejia, SD – 2–4, 2 HR, 4 RBI (1st 2 HR of his career)
Pitcher of the Day: Eric Lauer, SD – 4 INN, 2 H, 8 K 0 ER
