Day Two and a Demon

After I enjoyed the Opening Day of my First Timer League I figured it’d be fun to keep going with my Out of the Park Baseball simulation so today I rolled out day two and enjoyed it almost as much as the first game. I may be a bit prejudice because my Angels beat up on the cheating Astros again but I think I’m gonna enjoy this game even when the Angels don’t win.

Along with the baseball game I read through another Batman issue and finished off the Dark Knight, Dark City story and it was pretty good.

Game Two

So while the Angels won their first game of the year in Houston, the Padres picked up a win in San Diego. Unfortunately for them though, their starter, Garrett Richards, who was just coming back from Tommy John surgery, suffered a torn rotator cuff and is gonna be out for 4 months. This is a huge setback for the Padres who were hoping to make Richards the centerpiece of thier rotation.

Onward to the Angels-Astros second game.

The Angels waste no time getting started as they jump out to a 4–0 lead in the top of the first with home runs by Anthony Rendon and Shohei Ohtani. The Astros get on the board in the bottom of the 1st with a HR by Correa but the 4–1 game is short lived. The Angels smack back-to-back home runs again in the 2nd inning as Justin Upton and Mike Trout go yard and this is looking like it may be a very high scoring game as Trout’s HR knocks Zack Greinke out of the game.

So with the score 7–1 and their started on the bench, Houston prepares for a very long game. And it only gets worse in the 6th as the Angels send 9 batters to the plate and make the score 10–1. Fletcher picks up an RBI on a double in the 7th to make the score 11–1 and the final run of the game is knocked in by Josh Reddick as Houston folds in the 9th with a score of 11–2.

While the first game saw the 7–8–9 hitters for the Angels shine, today’s game (March 27th) saw the front of the lineup showing what it can do. Upton, Rendon, and Ohtani each hit one out of the park while Trout smacked 2 and rolled to a 3 for 4 day. Buried in all the offense though was a good day of pitching from Andrew Heaney. He threw 7 innings and only gave up a single run on a HR to Correa in the 1st inning.

So for the first two games of this simulated 2020 season, my Angels have dominated the Astros out scoring them 20 to 9 and I have to say I’m loving it. Hopefully this is what the real 2020 season will look like when it finally gets started.

A Demon in Gotham

Batman #454
In the previous issue (#453), we saw that the Riddler kidnapped four babies and lead Batman on a crazy chase around Gotham in an attempt to get the children back. Three were brought to safety by Bruce but the 4th is still missing. This trap for our hero was not set by the Riddler though, but rather a demon named Barbathos who’s been hanging out in Gotham for more than a century.

Brought into the area by colonial forefathers seeking to dominate it, Barbathos has watched as Gotham grew and expanded. The evil creature seeped into the city as it grew and it waited for the Bat to set it free.

The Riddler was manipulated by the demon and Batman was coerced by the Riddler and in the end, the demon got what it wanted. But while I know the Riddler will be back to bother Batman again, I’m not sure where the demon is gonna go from here.
