Newbies still Blogging and Juggling MMOs

I decided to take a look at some of the blogs on my NBI Newbie and Sponsor lists last night and while I didn't get through more than a couple dozen, I found a couple of trends that I found interesting.

  1. The new bloggers from the NBI are, for the most part, still blogging. While I found that some had taken a summer break or a week or two off here or there, most seemed to be carrying forward. I figure that more newbies may start back up as the summer comes to a close and games like GW2, the LOTRO and Rift expansions, and WoW:MoP come out.
  2. The first two sponsor blogs I looked at held recent posts about juggling MMOs. Syp over at Bio Break blogged about his experiment with a three-quest rotation between Rift, LOTRO, and TSW which sounded like an interesting method of ensuring that one MMO does not monopolize his time. Digging a bit further, I came to what appears to be his first post on the dilemma of having to choose how to split limited game time amongst different MMOs. Based on Syp's Four methods of juggling MMOs, I tend to follow his #4 method (doing whatever I feel like), but I can appreciate the desire for #1 (game by the hour) and the 3-quest rotation of the later article. Victor over at Games and Geekery had a similar post on Game Juggling and Frustration Management. I really sympathize with both these bloggers and find myself in a similar state of MMO overwhelm. There are just too many games I want to enjoy these days, that I don't have time for them all.

This weekend, I've decided to give the time boxed (game-by-the-hour) method a try. The only potential problem I forsee is how I tend to spend time in Eve. For Eve, I usually try to join up with fleets, which run for variable amounts of time, but usually 1-2 hours is the norm. So, since I want to throw down some time in Eve, I'll probably give it a 'time slot' but let my play time go for however long the fleet lasts. I'll let you know how it goes.

  1. Hello! Saw a notice on my blog about your post, and decided to visit. Feel free to add me up. And yeah… EVE is a daunting, needy mistress, but I’m in it for the long haul. Wish I could spend more gaming time though. Been spending little time playing as my neck keeps hurting.
