Ragefire makes me want a new WoW Hunter

Playing Everquest again had me wondering about the early levels of WoW.

Back in the day, I played a Necromancer in EQ until I emigrated to City of Heroes where I played an Illusionist/Empathy Controller and then in World of Warcraft, I continued my pet classes by taking a Hunter. Since I sadly can't go to CoH to see what my controller plays like now, I went to WoW and started up an Orc Hunter.

The WoW experience lives up to the reason I left EQ and played that game for the majority of my MMO game time. While the version of EQ I just played is based on the classic version, WoW only has the latest expansion available – Warlords of Draenor. Things may have been updated, but even back in the day, WoW made things easy compared to EQ. Leveling was primarily done through questing and the levels came pretty fast – not as quickly as they come now, but much faster than EQ (Now hunters get a pet from level 1 and don't have to worry about ammo). And the two big issues for me – there was no waiting for a new zone to load and I did not have to make corpse runs. Yes you had to go back to where you died, but you were not going to be killed along the way without any equipment because you were a ghost. That and the fact you did not lose experience when you died made WoW so much easier than EQ.

So, while I'm playing Everquest again and having fun exploring that old world, I figured I'll go ahead and continue leveling my new Hunter in WoW and see how I enjoy leveling in the Catclysm updated Warlords of Draenor modified World of Warcraft.

  1. My first-ever WoW character was a Hunter, so hearing about those two changes (I had long retired by the time they came about) hit me especially hard. I can understand giving Hunters a pet at level 1, despite my own liking for the progression towards pet taming, but removing ammo and ammo pouches? That was convenience taken too far. I figure it’s one good reason for Hunter fans to roll on a nostalgia server.
