Rambling About Injured Reserve And Crichton

Fantasy Football Week 2

Boy, did I squeak out a victory this week. I cannot believe I actually won. Looking at the app I saw that I was ahead by 16 points going into the second half of the Green Bay-Minnesota game. By the end of the game I was only a half point ahead. I, of course, have never heard of the receiver that was on Green Bay that was catching all the balls against me. He nearly won it for my opponent. But I guess I lucked out.

Week 2 Fantasy Football 2016

In other news of my team – Denver’s defense dominated for me. They scored the second highest points on my team behind my quarterback. I was pretty impressed by them.

Sadly though, that also meant that other players on my team had to perform pretty poorly. Those players actually got injured…Both of my running backs that I had playing last week were knocked out of their games. One actually is out for the rest of the season. So just like last year when I lost Jamaal Charles in I think it was week three, I now have one running back on injured reserve and another who is probably not going to play very much this year. I don’t mind playing the waiver wire, but I really hate it when somebody I expect to be one of my top scorers goes out in the second week and won’t be back all season.

Oh well, I’ll try to make it work again this year.

Sphere

I started reading Sphere by Michael Crichton yesterday for the SciFi and Fantasy Goodreads book club, and it’s pretty obvious that it’s his style. I’ve read a few of Crichton’s books in the past – Jurassic Park, Congo, Timeline, and my favorite, The Andromeda Strain, and for the most part have enjoyed what he’s done. I think its pretty telling that Hollywood has embraced his writing since it’s easy to see how his books can be made into movies. And while my favorite movie based on his work is Andromeda Strain, his others have made tons of $$$.

Coming in October, another book of his is being made into a TV series…Westworld. It was a pretty decent movie before with Yul Brynner and James Brolin and, I didn’t realize it, (but IMDB confirmed it) was directed by Crichton. It would be interesting to see what that could have been if directed by a more experienced director. In any case, I am looking forward to the current HBO take on the story.
