Supplies, Info, and Deathlok

Daily Ramble 60: Supplies, Info, and Deathlok

Today’s ramble takes me from Kingsmouth in Secret World Legends to the various planets of the solar system in Destiny 2 and back to New York for Wolverine and the X-Men. For SWL, I really like the fact that to level up I just have to repeat missions but after a while that can get old. Fortunately I haven’t run anything yet so it’s all pretty new. For Destiny 2, i get ready for the PC release by taking a lol at a good blog with pointers and suggestions for gameplay. Finally in comics, I head back to the 4th issue of Wolverine and the X-Men to see how things are going at the new school.

Supply Run

I’ve been going through familiar places in Kingsmouth once again. A long time ago in the beginnings of this blog I frequently played The Secret World and loved the atmosphere, puzzles, and lore of the game but I never got too far…something to do with my inability to complete games (thank you Destiny 2 for resolving that problem for me). Secret World Legends takes me back to this stomping ground and I’m happy to visit Susie’s Diner, the Bed and Breakfast, the Lady Margaret, and other places again.

This morning I jumped back on the Supply Run mission which sends you all over the town. Sheriff Bannerman and the survivors at the police station need food, oil, gas, and other supplies but can’t leave the station fearing the defenses would be overwhelmed. So I grabbed a phone book and headed out to all the places I’ve been before. The game is structurally the same as The Secret World but the combat is updated and I’m starting to get used to it. Wielding a spell on both my mouse buttons is a bit of a change for me, but slowly it’s becoming second nature. And even though I’ve purchased some of the skills and abilities to keep from topping off my AP and SP at 50, I still feel like I’m floundering when it comes to picking a direction to go with my build.

I’ve been running with a Blood/Assault Rifle build and things are falling easily so far and I feel pretty safe. Both of these weapons contain lots of healing so I’m pretty sure this is one of the most survivable builds of the starter classes which is why I chose it, but I’m starting to look around to see if I’m doing enough damage. Either way, I’m enjoying the familiar places and am looking forward to exploring some new places as I move beyond Kingsmouth.

Tales of the Aggronaut’s infodump

With the imminent release of Destiny 2 for the PC, Belghast over at Tales of the Aggronaut has put together a nice consolidation of information for everyone that will be playing or has played Destiny 2. He’s really done a good deal of research and if you read his blog as I do regularly, you know he’s played plenty of Destiny – both the first and second installments so I consider him a pretty knowledgeable source. I highly suggest you give his post a read if you plan on playing Destiny 2 on the PC. Even though I completed the game on the PS4, I had already purchased it on the PC so I’ll be running through things there – this time I think I’ll roll with a hunter to see how that class plays. Even if you’re sticking with the console version, he’s got tons of information.

Just Another Day

What a difference it makes to have a new artist on a title makes. The first 3 issues of Wolverine and the X-Men were drawn by Chris Bachalo and for some reason, I’m not sure, issue 4 was drawn by Nick Bradshaw. And while it’s not bad, reading the issues this close together makes me realize how dramatic artistic choices can be. It’s clear that the first 3 issues were part of the same storyline…Welcome to the X-Men! Now Die! – while this forth issue is something new. Everything in this issue seems well defined and clearly drawn whereas in the previous issues, I noticed that some scenes or parts of scenes had a lack of focus and clarity. Both styles work for the comic but it’ll be interesting to see if things stay this way or go back to Bachalo.

In any case, we’ve got 2 storylines in this issue, one dealing with Angel and the other with a new student who I think might be called Kid Apocalypse but who’s being called Genesis or Evan right now. It’s clear from references made in the story that these two characters and stories are related to some precursor that happened in Uncanny X-Force…something about Archangel and Apocalypse, but I haven’t read that so I’m just moving forward with what I learn in this and future issues. Angel was a friend of Iceman but in a battle lost his memories and Wolverine has brought him back to the school to try to help him remember. Genesis was also involved in that somehow but while Angel is happily ignorant of his origin, Genesis tries to get Deathlok to give him a glimpse into his future…one which doesn’t look good for the X-Men. Both parts of the issue hint at future events and help establish the foundation of this title.

I’m really enjoying it, and I’m hooked by the tease at the end of the issue where Kitty appears to be pregnant.
