My Reading:

The story starts off with Nick Fury being called in to a meeting with someone claiming to be a man from the future. He had shown up earlier and started winning big on the New York Stock Exchange such that every broker started following his moves. S.H.I.E.L.D. picked him up shortly after that and he asked specifically for Nick Fury.

This man from the future relates a scenario where the United States has fallen to the 7th largest economy in the world and immigration is flowing out from the country within the next 100 years. He then tells Fury that’s he’s here to provide warning and that they don’t know what’s waiting for them in the stars.

We interlude with short stories about Star-Lord and Nova and then are back with the man from the future. He’s reminiscing about the “heroic age” and how in his time they’re more subtle and while he talks, Maria puts out a call for information from any of the “time people” – Kang, Immortus, H. G. Wells, etc. But then he mentions the Ascendant who sound kinda ominous and we’re on to other vignettes.

We see Miss America and Loki on Earth 212 and Ant-Man defacing art at the Latverian embassy. But then we’re back with the man from the future and he’s bemoaning the fact that great events usually have some foreshadowing that no one pays attention to and how he’s not the only prophet from the future. We then see an account featuring Forge and Cable and when we return, things are getting tense.

As a group of soldiers enter the interrogation room, the man from the future utters the word ‘Kobik’ and all hell breaks loose. The soldiers shoot him, then each other and finally, Coulson shoots the last of the soldiers. Apparently the man from the future was transferring from body to body and Fury has no idea what’s just happened. Apparently ‘Kobik’ has some kinda meaning that Maria Hill knows about and tells Fury that’s his next mission as she talks to him about the Avengers Initiative.

What did I learn:

  • Maria Hill obviously know more about what’s going on than Nick Fury.
  • Coulson’s more observant than Fury.

My Thoughts:

I taking a look at each of the short stories in Marvel Now! Point One since I think each one is a stand-alone tale. Well, Marvel Now! Point One is a set of stories that feature some of the personalities of the Marvel universe and is basically a kicking off point for titles. This issue contains 6 stories with the first being this one…NYSE, featuring Nick Fury. This is the first I’ve read with Fury and it wasn’t bad. The fact that it’s an anthology doesn’t hurt the issue and I feel more knowledgeable having read an introductory few pages for the various titles. As for Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D, I’m interested in finding out about this Avengers Initiative and what all was up with this guy from the future and Kobik.

My Rating: B
