Daily Ramble 102: Random Ramblings and Comic-Con 2018 Open Registration

This is gonna be a truly rambling post today since I don’t have much of a focus but have a few things that came to me as I was brainstorming. First off is my lost post, followed by my happiness at finally getting a replacement power supply for my secondary computer, and last but not least is the Comic-Con 2018 Open Registration.

Lost Post

Last night was a real bummer when I got home and realized I never synched up my iPad to my computer. I had a post all ready to go this morning with a First Look at the final installment of Avengers X-Sanction. It was all ready to go – I had read through the issue and put together my initial thoughts but…nope…it never got synced to my iPad nor my WordPress account. Oh well, I suppose I’ll post it when I get in to work on Monday, but I was really counting on that to get me started this weekend.

Power Supply

A couple of weeks ago, without warning my laptop stopped working. No power whatsoever. I tried everything – checked that it was plugged in – yeah I figured that one out even without tech support – tried to jiggle the connection to the laptop, nothing seemed to help. I pulled out the battery, checked the charge and it was dead – was the battery bad? I had no indication of a battery problem, it was fully charged and working fine the morning before I left for work, so what was up?

The last time I had an issue, my motherboard overheated and my graphic card died. Similar symptoms (no power) but that was only a couple months ago – it couldn’t be the same thing, could it?

I hoped not since that was a fairly expensive fix – laptop graphics cards that meet the requirements for gaming aren’t cheap.

So I looked around the web to see what others experiencing similar problems had to do for a fix and stumbled upon someone suggesting a new power supply. I figured it couldn’t hurt to try – it was much cheaper and if I could find it on Amazon I could always return it if that wasn’t the problem.

The power supply arrived yesterday and I finally got a chance to get it in place today…WooHoo!!! It worked. A $40 solution and I was able to fix things myself…not bad.

Now I can finally get back to playing some Life is Feudal and Civilization VI.

Comic-Con 2018 Open Registration

After failing to get any type of badge during the Pre-Registration, I was a bit anxious for the Open Registration to start. I woke up at 5am this morning and couldn’t get back to sleep, I was so worried I’d not wake back up in time for the registration process. But I stayed awake and checked in with my buddies. All 3 of us were prepared to purchase tickets for each other no matter who got in…we assumed at least one would get in this time – it just seemed unbelievable that none of us got in during Pre-Registration. So 8am rolled around and I logged into the waiting room.

The waiting room is such a boring experience. Nothing happens except waiting and if it weren’t for my new power supply, I would’ve had to wait. Instead, I had the opportunity to get in some gaming while I waited. I fired up ArcheAge and ground out a level – right now, I think I’m still kinda in the tutorial section since I keep getting quests that teach me how to farm and such. The next one wants me to set up a house…not sure I’m ready to set down roots yet so I’ll come back to that one.

In any case, 9am rolled around and I was all set. Had my Member ID and those of my buddies and I was amped! The waiting room screen changed and indicated they were getting ready to let people in…I just wanted to break down the door and get my tickets. 9:05 they started letting people in, or so they said. 9:10 I get a notice that I was in…enter my Member ID and Last Name…WooHoo!!!!! I made it in!

That was the earliest I have made in into the registration room since they started using the online purchase only option. And this year I won’t have to worry about getting Preview Night through alternate means – I got it, no problem.

Wow! I am so relieved I don’t have to worry about tickets any more.

I hope those of you who tried to get tickets made it in as well.
