Youth over Experience

With 23 years and 55 days difference between Bartolo Colon and Jaime Barria the game proved to be a match of youth over experience for while Colon entered the game 2–2 with a 3.55 ERA, he ran into trouble early and didn’t make it past the 3rd inning. He gave up all the runs the Angels needed as Barria pitched 6 solid innings of shutout ball.

Jaime Barria Starts Off The Homestand Right

The Angels really needed this start from their young pitcher. With troubles recently on the road, the team needed to make a statement that they were coming home to turn things around. Barria’s 6 strike out performance did the trick and the bullpen helped out completing the shutout with 3 strong innings.

On the offensive side of things, Kinsler continued his recent improvements with a 1 for 5 night with a home run and 2 RBIs. He looks like he really wants to break outta the slump he was in for April and May.

Pujols and Trout also had good nights with Albert smacking a homer in a 2 for 4 effort and Trout going 2 for 4 with a double.

Rolling with 11 hits and 6 runs, the offense contributed plenty but I look to Barria for my Player of the Game. A rookie stopper is definitely something that’s good to have and his 6 shutout innings sure stopped the teams recent troubles.

The other news from the game was the 9th inning slide of Rougned Odor that almost took out Andrelton Simmons. He was clearly outta the base path and you can see he swung his leg out trying to kick Simmons rather than trying to reach the base. Benches cleared but it stood as a double play that ended the game. We’ll see if bad feelings continue today.

In today’s match we see Garrett Richards (4–4, 3.67 ERA) going against lefty Cole Hamels (3–5, 3.74) and while this is expected to be a matchup of aces, neither the Angels nor Texas are where they want to be at this point in the season.
