Barely Enough

Tuesday the Angels’ offense threw up 5 runs and it proved barely enough for the win as the bullpen almost choked again.

Fish on Fire

They didn’t choke though and the Angels went on to the victory which was sorely needed.

Trout was his usual monstrous self but he only got one hit. With that, he drove in 2 runs to put the team ahead 4–2 in the 5th. He also picked up a couple of walks to make 11 in his last 37 plate appearances. So in those 37 PAs, he’s batted .696 – truly monsterous! He even reached base Tuesday on catcher’s interference.

The good news to add to that is that Kinsler and Kole Calhoun each hit home runs. Could it be that the offense is starting to show what it should have been doing for the past 70 games?

In any case, the 5 runs were enough to survive a ninth inning attempt by Blake Parker to lose the game. He gave up a 2 run homer to Goldschmidt but was able to close the Diamondbacks down.

Felix Pena did an admirable job going 4 innings and only giving up a single run on 3 hits and 6 strike outs. I still wouldn’t call him a starter but with his 57 pitches, he’s getting there.

My Player of the Game has to go to Trout just because he’s so good. I’d hate to see where the team would be without him so let’s try to at least keep him healthy this season.

The Angels get a day off today and then face the Blue Jays on Thursday. Tomorrow’s game features lefthander Tyler Skaggs (6–4, 2.81 ERA) against Toronto’s righthanded Aaron Sanchez (3–5, 4.35 ERA) in the first of a 4 game series.
