Characters:

The Good: Green Arrow, Black Canary, John Diggle, Emiko Queen
The Bad: Shado, Dante, Ninth Circle, Underground Men, The Burned

My Reading:

In the last issue, Ollie and Diggle had to improvise a Plan B because the laptop they were holding ransom was destroyed in a drinking accident. A direct assault seems to be the only way to save Dinah and try to find Emiko, so they head to the floating fortress of the Ninth Circle.

The two easily gain access to the Inferno and Diggle disguises himself as one of the board members to infiltrate their meeting. Meanwhile, Ollie plants explosives throughout the fortress as he looks for Black Canary.

As Green Arrow finds the treasure room we see that in another room, Emiko and Shado prepare to torture Dinah. But that’s not to be as Emi whispers that she’s on the same side to Canary and frees her. Of course Canary’s sonic blast is heard throughout the ship.

Lured by the scream, Green Arrow finds the women and confronts Emiko. Dinah jumps between them and tells Ollie that Emi helped her escape but she’s also pissed off at him for letting her believe he was dead.

As overwhelming numbers of bad guys show up Ollie has to blow up his fortune in the treasure room to allow them to escape. But as the team makes their way to freedom they get separated and Ollie finds himself stranded on a desert island all by himself.

What did I learn:

  • Emi turned out to be on the good side all along.
  • The homeless the Underground Men were capturing were turned into the Burned on the Inferno.
  • Ollie decides it’s better to escape than save his fortune.

My Thoughts:

On the whole I think this was a decent conclusion to the story arc and I feel that I learned a bunch about the characters in these 6 issues. It’ll be interesting to see how Ollie comes back from this – not only from the island but also from not having any money…but from my understanding, he’s done this kinda thing before.

As far as reading Green Arrow for the first time, I wouldn’t say he’s one of my favorites. He’s alright but I’d have to see more of his rogues gallery to really see if I’d follow the series. As it stands, I’m kinda glad that my order for DC Rebirth moves on to another title next since 6 issues has been a bit much.

My Rating: B-
