Is This a Winning Streak?

Three in a row…is this a winning streak for my Angels? The last time they won 3 in a row was back in mid June so this is definitely a positive sign, and they’re doing it with good offense and decent pitching.

Kole Calhoun Comes Through

You could almost call this game the Kole Calhoun show since he was on fire Friday and I give him my Player of the Game for it. With a 2 run double in the 2nd and a walkoff home run in the 10th, Kole has really shown how he’s turned the corner on what was a pretty bad first half. Since coming off the disabled list on June 18th, Calhoun has rocked 11 home runs and raised his season average from .145 to .201. Sure, that’s not great but he’s batted .288 with 23 RBIs since he came back and is playing much closer to expectations.

On the pitching side of things, Andrew Heaney threw 8 innings giving up 3 runs and left with the game tied. He still had some gas having only thrown 81 pitches but Scioscia took him out. The bullpen held up though and threw a scoreless 9th and 10th allowing time for Calhoun to smack his home run.

Seattle almost took the lea though as the home plate umpire made a bad ‘safe’ call on an attempted double steal by Dee Gordon running home as Briceno threw to second trying to get Jean Segura. It was clear Gordon was out at the plate but the umpire had bad positioning and missed the call. A challenge corrected that and allowed the 10th inning heroics to win it for the Angels.

3 games in a row is pretty good for the team and I’m certainly happy to see them winning for a change. The atmosphere sure seems to be a lot less depressing and dire in these last few games and it’s fun watching the team again. Hopefully they can keep this good string going a while longer.
