Arcia for the Win!

WOW!

What a couple of games from a 12 year minor league catcher! Francisco Arcia is certainly making the most of his first at bats in the majors. In yesterday’s game he hit his 2nd home run of his career and was a one man wrecking crew against one of the best pitchers in baseball – King Felix. Ok, this hasn’t been Felix Hernandez’ best year but he’s still a top notch starter and the Angels smacked him around to the tune of 7 runs on 6 hits over 2 2/3 innings. I have to say that was fun to watch.

Record Breaking Performance

I’m sure that with 12 years in the minor leagues, Francisco Arcia never thought he’d be associated with the record books within 2 games of advancing to the majors. Well with his performance he’s made history. 10 RBIs in the first 2 games breaks the record previously held by Joe Cunningham in 1954. But not only did he pick up 10 RBIs, he’s hit 2 home runs and hit 5 for 8. He is on fire and perhaps he’s the shot in the arm the Angels needed to get their season back on track.

Ok, that may be a bit premature since the team is 13 games behind Houston in the West and 8 games behind the team their playing for the 2nd wild card spot. Regardless, with Arcia on the team, the Angels are 3–0, winning both games he’s played and they’ve moved from 15 games back to 13. I can only hope this trend continues.

Needless to say, Arcia grabs my Player of the Game and a day when the Angels scored 13 runs and Kinsler went 3–3, that’s saying a lot. Trout and Arcia both went yard the offense continued hitting with runners in scoring position, going 5 for 12.

On the mound, Barria threw 6 innings of hit ball giving up 2 runs and striking out 2. He looked pretty good out there and certainly with all he’s done for the Angels, he deserved his first win since June 1st. The Bullpen gave up 3 runs but then, they had the luxury of support so they didn’t need to worry too much. I just hope they get those runs outa their system and go back to good pitching when they don’t have the offense backing them up.

In any case, this was another win and another good game to watch. The team looks like they’re having fun out there for a change and I can only hope this continues for the rest of the season.
