Offense Reigns Supreme

Today featured a couple of crazy games from a couple of stars. I’m not really sure which performance is supreme but I would gladly take either one on my team or my fantasy team. I’ll start with Trevor Story who went 3 for 4 Wednesday. He did so by hitting 3 home runs, one of which clocked in at 505 feet – the longest HR in the majors since 2015. They monster shots and he certainly is deserving of my Player of the Day.

The other player who dazzled in the batter’s box was just informed that he should undergo Tommy John surgery to repair his pitching arm. Yup…another Angel being told to go under the knife and told to spend more time recovering than playing the game they want to be playing. When is the front office of the team gonna realize this is not normal and there needs to be something done to improve conditioning and mechanics. In any case, Shohei Ohtani demonstrated on Wednesday why he is so valuable even if he’s just a hitter with a 4 for 4 night. He actually reached base 5 times with the 5th being a walk but 2 of the hits were home runs too. To put icing on the cake, he also stole a base, knocked in 3, and scored 4 runs. He certainly deserves my Player of the Day as well. So I think I’ll have 2 today since they were both great performances.

Static Standings

On the pitching side of things, Mike Leake threw well for Seattle and gave his team the chance to beat up on the Orioles one last time. He gave up zero earned runs and struck out 4 in 6 innings of work and his team went on to win 5–2.

As far as the standings go, the AL West stayed static as Houston beat Minnesota and Oakland took down the Yankees. In the NL, Colorado picked up a game on the Dodgers leaving them 1 1/2 games in first place. While LA and Arizona are within 2 games of the Rockies, neither would rate a wildcard berth at this point. They’re gonna have to stop beating up on each other and start winning games against the NL Central or only 1 NL West team will be showing up in the post season.
