West Leaders Continue to Win

Houston continued their winning ways by taking the final game against Detroit 5–4. Alex Bregman went 2 for 5 with his 50th double. He also nabbed his 100th RBI and 100th run scored to make him a viable MVP candidate. Keeping pace, the Athletics scored 10 runs in the 3rd on 8 singles, 2 walks, a double and a home run. That was more than enough to crush Baltimore 10–0 as the A’s cruised to their 6th win in a row. Matt Olson hit his 26th HR and went 2 for 4 with 3 RBIS in the victory to keep Oakland 3 games behind Houston in the division and to move them to 1 game behind New York for the top wildcard spot. Both teams have pulled away from the rest of the AL West and look to be fighting among themselves and New York for the division and wildcard spots. Speaking of the Mariners, they lost as the Padres got out to a 2 run lead in the 2nd and never looked back. Hunter Renfroe and Austin Hedges had HRs in the 5–4 victory.

The standings look as follows:
Houston 92–54
Oakland 89–57, 3 games back, 1 game behind NY for top wildcard spot
Seattle 79–66, 12.5 games back, 9.5 behind Oakland for 2nd wildcard spot

As for the rest, the Angels got out to a 2 run lead over Texas in the 2nd and never looked back. Francisco Arcia had 2 home runs, Ohtani went 2 for 3, and Simmons had a 3 for 3 night as the Angels won 8–1. With those 2 HRs, Arcia gets my Player of the Day, and with a 6 inning shutout performance, Felix Peña grabs my Pitcher of the Day.

Even After Losing 11 In A Row The Giants Have A Chance

In the National League West, Arizona and Colorado were at it again on Wednesday and this time DJ LeMahieu hit his first walk-off home run of his career. The 2-run homer capped a 3 for 5 effort and kept the Rockies 1 1/2 games above the Dodgers in first place. Arizona fell to 3.5 games back as they only managed 4 hits and struck out 12 times. Speaking of the Dodgers, the Reds scored in the 1st looking to extend their dominance but the boys in blue came back with a vengeance to score 8 runs over the 4th, 5th, and 6th to pick up their first win of the season against the Reds. Justin Turner and Yasmani Grandal each had 3 RBIs in the win.

The standings look as follows:
Colorado 80–65
Los Angeles 79–67, 1.5 games back, 2 behind St. Louis for the 2nd wildcard spot
Arizona 77–69, 3.5 games back, 4 behind St. Louis for the 2nd wildcard spot

Felix Peña’s (LAA) 6 shutout innings, Austin Hedge’s (SD) 2-run HR, Houston’s Bregman hits a 2 RBI double, Matt Olson’s 3-run blast, DJ LeMahieu’s 2-run walkoff HR

As for the San Francisco Giants, they dropped their 11th in a row as they only managed a single run against the Braves. Even with the Giant’s nosedive, they still technically have a chance to win the division considering the top 3 teams keep exchanging places in the standings. Their magic number for elimination is 4, regardless, they are playing pretty poorly lately.

Pitcher of the Day: Felix Peña, LAA – 6 INN, 6 H, 1 BB, 3 K, 0 ER
Player of the Day: Francisco Arcia, LAA – 3–4, 2 HR, 2B, 4 RBI
