Arizona Falters Again

Arizona falters again as the Rockies took the finale of their series at Coors Field. With the victory, Colorado moved to stay one and a half games ahead of the Dodgers who win in St. Louis and 4.5 ahead of the D-Backs. Nolan Arenado hit his 34th and Trevor Story hit his 33rd home runs of the season to power the Rockies to a 10–3 victory.

The Dodgers were more than happy to be done with the Reds as they headed to face a direct rival for the wildcard. Winning 9–7, the Big Blue team from LA beat the Cardinals and moved to 1 game out in the wildcard race. Manny Machado carried the offense as he smacked a solo HR and went 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 3 RBIs. Kershaw didn’t have his best stuff but he held the team in the game as they scored 8 runs to support him.

Oakland Falters in the AL

In the AL West, Oakland ran into a speed bump on their quest for the post season as they lost to Baltimore of all teams. Nick Martini went 3 for 3 and Stephen Piscotty picked up his 24th home run in the losing effort as the Athletics dropped to a game and a half behind the Yankees for the top wildcard spot.

In the only other game featuring a West Coast teams Thursday, Seattle finally started showing that they are still in the hunt as they beat up on the Angels 8–2. Nelson Cruz’ 3-run home run was all the Mariners needed but they tacked on 5 more runs and got a solid 7 innings of 1-run pitching from Mike Leake.
