Break Up and Couples Therapy

Daily Ramble 46

Today I got the chance to take a first look at a couple of comics and while I played a bit of MapleStory 2, I didn’t get any images so I’m gonna hold off till tomorrow to post on the Game.

Batman: The Long Halloween has been pretty good but I’m only on issue 6 of the 13 that were released. With it being removed from DC Universe tomorrow I’ll have to switch over to my Comixology version that I bought a while ago. It’s too bad that someone new to comics won’t get a chance to read this classic even though they’re paying for a DC subscription, but that’s what they’re giving us for our money so far.

The Rogue & Gambit series is almost all on Marvel Unlimited with only the last issue unavailable as I write this. It should be released tomorrow though as that’s the 6 month window that Marvel uses for new releases. I wouldn’t consider this series a classic from what I know but at least anyone can read it to learn about the characters.

First Look at Batman: The Long Halloween – Part 6

St. Patrick’s Day by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale. Published in 1997 by DC Comics.

The 6th part of The Long Halloween takes place on St. Patrick’s Day and Bruce Wayne is still under the spell of Poison Ivy. In the last issue, Ivy messed up a date between Bruce and Selina and this time she’s got Wayne agreeing to allow the bank to launder Falcone’s money. She didn’t expect to see Catwoman coming to Bruce’s defense though. So with Ivy’s spell broken and Maroni’s gang turning up the heat, The Roman gets his daughter involved and sends her to hit Maroni’s safe house. Holiday beat her to it though.

Whoever this Holiday is, they’re hitting both gangs and pissing off some of Batman’s most formidable foes. Who could it be?

I give this issue a First Look Rating of a B+.

This comic can be found on DC Universe until November 5th, Comixology anytime or at your local comic book shop.

First Look at Rogue & Gambit #1

Ring of Fire – Part 1 by Kelly Thompson and Pete Pérez. Published in 2018 by Marvel Comics.

What I know about Rogue and Gambit pretty much comes from the animated TV show from the 90s and the movies so I have to say I’m not to knowledgeable about their relationship. Apparently they were quite a couple some time back and this series touches on some sensitive topics for them.

The basic idea seems to be that mutants that have been attending a “private retreat” in Paraíso, have started vanishing. Kitty Pryde needs to have things investigated so she sets up Rogue and Gambit to go to some “couples therapy” down south. Since the two of them are currently on the outs, they’re not too happy about the situation but it may be a chance to rekindle the flame.

After beating up some sentinels in the danger room, arguing about kissing Deadpool on the plane trip, and recognizing they’ll be sharing a room at the retreat, the mutants meet their neighbors. They seem friendly enough but as they head back to their bungalow we see their eyes glowing indicating something is messed up with them. That’s the least of things to worry about as their first “therapy” session ends up with the two heroes tied up on operating tables.

In all, the issue looks pretty good and I’m enjoying learning more about this X-Men couple. I give this issue a First Look Ramble rating of a B.

This comic can be found on Marvel Unlimited, Comixology or at your local comic book shop.
