Marvel Unlimited New Weekly Releases August 12, 2019

Marvel releases comics to the Unlimited platform about 6 months after they come out in floppy format so this week we are seeing comics from February 6, 2019. In an effort to try to read some more “modern” issues, I’ve been tracking what’s currently being released and trying to catch up from recent number ones…we’ll see how that goes.

Here’s the new stuff I’ve found this week that were released in February 2019:

Top Releases of the Week

15 new comics released today (last week had 20).  Anyway, looking at Comic Book Roundup which aggregates a bunch of review sites, here are the top issues from this batch of comics. This week I load up on 5 issues since there were a bunch of good ones.

  • Immortal Hulk #13
  • Avengers #14
  • Deadpool #9
  • Daredevil #1
  • Star Wars #61

Number Ones

There are 5 NUMBER ONEs this week so there’s plenty of places to start out a new series. Though it seems that Marvel’s got a bunch of one shots going on this time around which I guess could be good or bad.

  • Daredevil #1
Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto kick off a highly rated run of the man without fear as every issue in this volume rates above an 8.5 except the last.
  • Age of X-Man: The Marvelous X-Men #1
This is a #1 but I think it might be better to check out The Age of X-Man #1 which released to Marvel Unlimited last week. This issue seems to dive in deeper to that event.
  • Gunhawks #1
This appears to be a one shot since it’s 6 months later and there has only been this single issue which is a pretty cool homage to some of the old Western style comics that Marvel published regularly.
  • Old Man Quill #1
This is a promising issue that points to a large gap in time since the Guardians have galavanted around the galaxy together and this time we get to see how Star Lord copes with the “Old Man” world of Marvel.
  • Star Wars: Age of the Republic: Anakin Skywalker #1
Anakin’s still a good guy in this one…or is he? In this seemingly stand alone issue we jump to the time of the Clone Wars and build out more lore for this central character of the Star Wars universe.

Jumping on Points

While there are 5 NUMBER ONEs this week there are even more places to jump into a series and these titles are a bit more fleshed out than the #1s.

  • Avengers #14
This issue kicks off the War of the Vampires. With Blade and Dracula in the mix, this looks like a lot of fun for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
  • Uncanny X-Men #11
This issue kicks off Matthew Rosenberg and Salvador Larroca’s run and it starts where the X-Men Disassembled storyline ends. It’s up to Cyclops and Wolverine to put the pieces back together and forge a new future for the mutants.
  • Asgardians of the Galaxy #6
This issue starts off a new story line that brings the Asgardians into the War of the Realms.
