Marvel Unlimited New Weekly Releases August 19, 2019

Marvel releases comics to the Unlimited platform about 6 months after they come out in floppy format so this week we are seeing comics from February 13, 2019. In an effort to try to read some more “modern” issues, I’ve been tracking what’s currently being released and trying to catch up from recent number ones…we’ll see how that goes.

Here’s the new stuff I’ve found this week that was released in February 2019:

Top Releases of the Week

20 new comics released today (last week had 15).  Anyway, looking at Comic Book Roundup which aggregates a bunch of review sites, here are the top issues from this batch of comics. This week I load up on 5 issues since there were a bunch of good ones.

  • Marvels Annotated #1
  • Winter Soldier #3
  • Ms. Marvel #38
  • Runaways #18
  • Star Wars: Han Solo – Imperial Cadet #4

Number Ones

There are 5 NUMBER ONEs this week so there’s plenty of places to start out a new series. Though it seems that Marvel’s got a coupl of one shots going on this time around which I guess could be good or bad.

  • Marvels Annotated #1
by Alex Ross and Kurt Busiek
Taking a trip back to 1939, this issue looks at the Dawn of the Age of Marvels and shows what it was like to meet the Human Torch for the first time. The original Marvels is a classic…will this one be too?
  • Avengers: No Road Home #1
by Al Ewing, Jim Zub, Mark Waid, and Paco Medina
Can the Avengers take on a force that’s defeated gods in the past?
  • Star Wars: Age of the Republic: Count Dooku #1
by Jody Houser and Luke Ross
This is a one-shot rather than a number one but it’s cool to see Dooku doing Sith stuff.
  • Spider-Man Web of Intrigue #1
by Sholly Fisch and Jeff Loveness
Part of the Marvel Adventures series, this is a fun little tale of Spidey, Miles, Gwen, and Anya.
  • Age of X-Man: NextGen #1
    Ed Brisson and Marcus To
Glob, Armor, Anole, and Rockslide are the NextGen of the X-Men and of course they’re attending the Summers Institute for Higher Learning.

Concluding Issues

Some story’s have been told and transform into something new.

  • Ms. Marvel #38
by G. Willow Wilson and Nico Leon
This final issue of the series celebrates a great run that has me looking for G. Willow Wilson comics where ever they are found. It was a fun series and will be missed…hopefully she’ll get another solo series soon.
  • Shatterstar #5
by Tim Seeley, Carlos Villa, and Gerardo Sandoval
This issue brings to a close the Shatterstar mini-series. I haven’t read any of it and it got mixed reviews.
  • Amazing Spider-Man #15
by Nick Spencer and Chris Bachalo
This brings the Lifetime Achievement arc to a close.
