DC Universe New Weekly Releases August 27, 2019

DC Comics started to release new comics to their DC Universe platform about a year after they enter circulation as floppies. With that in mind I decided to list off those released each week as I do for Marvel Unlimited. The DC releases come out on Monday just like the Marvel comics but since they are pushed to their site in the evening I figured I’d publish their list on Tuesday…

Here’s the new stuff I’ve found this week that were released August 22nd 2018:

DC Universe New Weekly Releases August 27, 2019:

  • Action Comics #1002
  • Batman Beyond #23
  • Batman: Kings of Fear #1
  • Damage Annual #1
  • Detective Comics #987
  • Flash #53
  • Injustice 2 #72
  • Justice League Dark #2
  • Raven: Daughter of Darkness #7
  • Suicide Squad Annual #1
  • Teen Titans #21
  • The Silencer #8
  • The Terrifics #7
  • Wonder Woman #53
  • Mother Panic: Gotham A.D. #6

17 new comics released today compared to 14 last week. Looking at Comic Book Roundup which aggregates a bunch of review sites, here are the top issues from this batch of comics. Only 2 issues meet my current threshold for top honors this week (rating 8.5 or over with more than 3 reviews).

  • Injustice 2 #72
by Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo
The series finale to a fairly highly rated title. This series has consistently rated above an 8.0 on Comic Book Roundup and this final issue is no different. The fact that this ties into the game makes me all the more interested in starting from the beginning.
  • Justice League Dark #2
by James Tynion IV, Alvaro Eduardo, Martinez Bueno, and Raul Fernandez.
Continuing where JusticeLeague: No Justice left off, I’m interested in seeing where this magical Justice League goes.

Number Ones

There are 3 NUMBER ONEs this week so there’s plenty of places to start out a new series. Do Annual #1s really count though? I’ll count them

  • Batman: Kings of Fear #1
by Scott Peterson and Kelley Jones.
Scarecrow takes advantage of an insecure? Batman and crafts a riot at Arkham. This looks like a fun mini-series.
  • Damage Annual #1
by Robert Vendetti and Diogenes Neves.
This issue gives the reader insight into the origins of Damage and should be worth checking out.
  • Suicide Squad Annual #1
by Cullen Bunn and Ronan Cliquet.
I’m not a big fan of Suicide Squad but these guys meet up with The Swamp Thing so this could get interesting.

Closing it Down

Each week there are usually a few stories that come to a close and this week we have 3 of those.

  • Injustice 2 #72
by Tom Taylor and Bruno Redondo
This ends the series and the game continues the story. From what I’ve heard, this is a pretty good series of 72 comics.
  • Detective Comics #987
by Bryan Hill and Miguel Mendonca.
The On the Outside storyline comes to a close but things are getting real interesting for the Bat team as the term Brainiac Files doesn’t sound like something good.
  • Mother Panic: Gotham A.D. #6
by Jody Houser and Ibrahim Moustafa.
Story and series conclusion, this issue brings Mother Panic face to face with her archnenemy and brings a satisfying, if ‘too soon’ ending to this series.

Jumping on Points

  • The Terrifics #7
by Jeff Lemire and Dale Eaglesham.
Kicks off the Tom Strong and the Terrifics arc as the Terrifics use the Dark Multiverse antenna to search for Tom.
  • Raven: Daughter of Darkness #7
by Marv Wolfman and Pop Mhan.
The beginning of the second volume of Raven: Daughter of Darkness, this issue see a new Night Force being formed and Raven is reluctantly drafted to help out.
