Marvel Unlimited New Weekly Releases September 9, 2019

Marvel releases comics to the Unlimited platform about 6 months after they come out in floppy format so this week we are seeing comics from March 6, 2019. In an effort to try to read some more “modern” issues, I’ve been tracking what’s currently being released and trying to catch up from recent number ones…we’ll see how that goes.

Here’s the new stuff I’ve found this week that were released in March 2019:

Top Releases of the Week

18 new comics released today (last week had 20).  Anyway, looking at Comic Book Roundup which aggregates a bunch of review sites, here are the top issues from this batch of comics. This week I load up on 4 issues and they all look like fun.

  • Immortal Hulk #14
by Al Ewing and Kyle Hotz.
A ‘resurrected’ Bruce Banner shows back up in Betty Ross’ life but who know’s what the Hulk’s plans are.
  • Avengers #16
by Jason Aaron and David Marquez.
The War of the Vampires continues as Blade takes his turn.
  • Meet the Skrulls #1
by Robbie Thompson and Niko Henrichon.
The Skrulls are invading and this family is at the forefront of the invasion force.
  • Deadpool #10
by Scottie Young and Scott Hepburn.
Good Night is back from the first issue of this title and he’s taking care of Deadpool’s jobs before the merc with a mouth get a chance. I sense a confrontation.

Number Ones

There are 8 NUMBER ONEs and one-shots this week so there’s plenty of places to start out a new series.

  • Meet the Skrulls #1
by Robbie Thompson and Niko Henrichon
I get the sense that this series is gonna be similar to the Vision series that was so good a few years ago. Meet the Skrulls sets up a normal family life for a group of embedded aliens who are the vanguard of an invasion of Earth.
  • Ziggy Pig – Silly Seal Comics #1
by Frank Tieri and Jacob Chabot.
This looks like it could be an interesting one-shot.
  • Spider-Man: Spider-Sense of Adventure #1
by Sholly Fish, Ty Templeton and a whole lot more…
This is another issue in an all ages series that looks like it could be fun.
  • Domino: Hotshots #1
by Gaile Simone and David Baldeon.
This series has a lot of potential as I loved the Domino mini-series that was released earlier. I’m looking forward to this one.
  • Star Wars: Vader – Dark Visions #1
by Dennis Hopeless and Paulo Villanelli.
Sith or Jedi, this issue seems to take a look at the many facets of the big bad of the Star Wars universe.
  • Age of X-Man: Prisoner X #1
by Vita Ayala and German Peralta.
Bishop shows up in the Danger Room, the prison in the utopia of the Age of X-Man.
  • Cosmic Ghost Rider Destroys Marvel History #1
by Nick Giovannetti, Paul Scheer, and Gerardo Sandoval.
Ghost Rider has traveled back in time to stop Thanos as a baby but instead decided to mess with the origin of the Fantastic Four.
  • Star Wars: Age of the Republic: Padme Amidala #1
by Jody Houser, Cory Smith, and Amilton Santos.
Padme goes on her own mission to enlist a neutral world into her Republic. Does she have what it takes?

Jumping on Points

While there are 8 NUMBER ONEs this week there are even more places to jump into a series and these titles are a bit more fleshed out than the #1s.

  • Star Wars #62
by Kieron Gillen and Andrea Broccardo.
This issue kicks off The Scourging of Shu-Torun story arc.

Concluding Issues

Some story’s have been told and transform into something new.

  • Killmonger #5
by Bryan Edward Hill and Juan Ferreira.
This is the final issue in the By Any Means arc which tells the story of N’Jadaka as he becomes the Killmonger we’re all familiar with from the Black Panther movie.
  • The Black Order #5
by Derek Landy and Carlos Magno.
The Warmasters of Thanos arc comes to a end with a focus on Ebony Maw as the Black Order’s mission for the Grandmaster heads towards it’s conclusion. I haven’t read any of these so far and they haven’t gotten the best ratings but the concept certainly sounds interesting. Issue 3 rated on my top Marvel picks so I’ll give it a read and see if this series is worth the effort.
