Civilization VI Blapril Succession Game Turns 61-70

Long Live the Queen!

And hopefully I wont take down the Empire!

Long Live The Queen!

This is a succession game of Civilization VI in which each player in turn plays out 10 turns of the same Civilization saved game. We are all playing as Queen Victoria and we are all working to reach the endgame together (hopefully).

So far, there are 8 of us involved in ruling England and I just happen to be the 7th ruler of the bunch. Each of the previous leaders has posted about their exploits and passed on the map to the next. Here are those that have come before me…

Naithin
Rakuno
Paeroka
Tessa
Kirkket
UnwiseOwl

I play this next set of turns – 60 thru 69 and I probably screwed things up but I had fun doing it!

Following my play comes Kanter and at the end of all this I’ll upload the save file for the Queen’s reign must go on.

Getting my Bearings

I have to say that I feel like I take way too much time trying to analyze the situations I find myself in when I play Civilization and this doesn’t work well when I’ve got to play a bunch of turns and pass control on. With that said…

Catherine de Medici shows up as soon as I take command and she’s looking to establish some kind of open borders with the Great Empire of England. I’m not so sure though. She could be trying to take advantage of the transition in leadership to pull a fast one over on us but then, she is offering 3 gold now and a gold piece a turn for the next 30 turns. Considering 33 gold is about a 5th of our royal treasury at this point in our reign and the fact that Paris is quite a bit away from our nearest concerns, I think I’ll go ahead and take the gold.

More Administrative Stuff

Now that diplomacy is over I check on our scientists and they inform me they’ve discovered the wonders of Bronze Working. This seems a very good thing indeed since it provides for the building of barracks, encampment districts, it allows us to recruit spear men and locate iron in the territories we explore. Finally, it gives us the ability to chop down the forests which I think will be a good thing since they keep getting in our way. And who needs all those trees anyway, they help us out so much more by fueling our production.

On the research front, UnwiseOwl was able to find us a natural wonder of the world which boosted our research into Astrology so I’m gonna take the easy win here and assign my scientists to keep pushing in that direction. Perhaps by the time they figure out the new field I’ll have a better idea of where to direct them.

With administrative details taken care of, it’s time to see what’s going on in the empire.

Two Settlers?

Hmm…perhaps it wasn’t such a good idea to open our borders to the French since they’re already scouting nearby. I wonder if Egypt gave them similar terms for opening their borders?

With the recent settler completed in London I figure it’d be nice to knock out a task for a potential friend. Valletta has asked us to recruit a spearman so I figure that’s be a nice easy win to expand our army and befriend a nearby city-state.

And – woah! I didn’t see that we’ve got 2 settlers to find city placement for. This is gonna be interesting since I was having enough trouble trying to pick a single spot. Hmm…

Another Wonder!

To the West our scouts find Crater Lake and boy does it look like a beautiful place to go camping. It’s be nice to set up a city nearby but I’m worried it might be a bit far from London at this time. We’ll see how the game progresses and maybe we’ll make it over to that area with some construction workers down the road.

You’d Think We Were New to Diplomacy

Our next encounter with a foreign power comes halfway through our reign as Teddy knocks on our door asking for open borders which I’m not so sure I want to establish with him. As I’ve explored out West, I’ve noticed that to our South there isn’t a whole of expansion space and as I move further West I see I am started to get closer to the United States. If I give him open borders that could prove troublesome down the road so I declined his offer, even though it might piss him off.

And then Cleo shows up and I know she’s not to friendly but she’s offering open borders too. I wonder if Catherine told everyone we’re easy or something. In any case, with Egypt right on our borders I’m definitely not inclined to let her military take R&R near London and Leeds.

And…Yeah – France must have told everyone about our deal because as soon as I declined Teddy and Cleo, Gilgamesh showed up with a similar offer. I decided to just make a whole isolationist stand for the moment which might make France like us a bit more for our exclusivity.

Blinding Me With Science!

As our diplomats have been busy, so have our scientists. They’ve advanced our understanding of Astrology to the point where we can now build a shrine, construct Stonehenge, or even build up a holy site district in our cities. These guys sure study a lot and I’m gonna have to reward them somehow.

Maybe I’ll make a bronze statue for them or something.

But more to the point, I’m thinking it’s time we start working on one of the most basic forms of transportation so our economy can get started. So I set my pocket protector dudes to work on The Wheel.

This turns out to be good because I reached a Eureka moment in Currency research which was my other choice. When I go back to research that…or rather, when Queen Victoria goes back to research that, she’ll have a nice boost to help her along since I established a trade route.

All The Things…

So many things went on early in my running of the empire that the tail end seemed rather quiet. I did establish a State Workforce but didn’t really feel that I needed to update the government. If things aren’t broke, why try to fix them right?

I suppose though, the major thing I did toward the end of my reign was to found the city of Birmingham. Cleo wasn’t too pleased with my placement of the city, but I told her I would consider her concerns when I next planted a city. She can deal with it as she see fit…she wasn’t too pleasant with us before so I’m not too worried it will piss her off any more than she already is.

It’s a Wrap

So I suppose my 10 turns seemed to take forever. It really did seem that centuries were going by as I fretted over the smallest decisions. I just hope I didn’t mess everything up for the whole team. Well see though, and it was a lot of fun. In any case, here is my save file.

Next up is Kanter and I hope they leave the empire in better shape than I did. I just kinda feel like I put my people through 10 turns of chaos.

  1. Quite a lot happened your round!

Well played though I think. I tend to (right or wrong) play nice with everyone to begin with and then just see where the chips lie as the games go when it reaches the inevitable point that we can’t all be friends any more. 😉

Looking forward to seeing where Kanter takes us next!!

  2. I don’t think you screwed anything up. The closest thing that could be contested as a good thing would be the open borders deal with France but I don’t think it was necessarily a bad move. From what I understand the french are far away from us and they are giving us some money, so it is not that bad of a deal.

Everything else also seems good to me. 🙂
