A Rook, a Dog, and a God Butcher

Today, I’m happy to say is my second Ramble in a row. Woohoo! Hey, you gotta celebrate small victories in 2020, right? Anyway, Today I learn a bit about upcoming MCU releases, continue my reading of The Rook, and have a fun read of a new comic I recently picked up.

Gorr the God Butcher

I was so excited to learn this morning that the next installment of the Thor franchise in the MCU will feature Gorr the God Butcher. He’s been one of my favorite Thor villains even if he’s only been around for a little while in comic book terms.

The whole Thor: God of Thunder storyline is a lot of fun and I’ve looked into a few here on BTG. With Gorr joining the MCU and with Christian Bale playing him, I think the future of the Marvel movies is looking good.

Glorified Accountant

Today I continue my re-read of The Rook and move on to chapters two and three.

As the last chapter finished off, our heroine was racing away from the bank where she made a fateful life decision – she was going to try to resume the life she had before her memories were stolen. That meant figuring out who attacked her and the first place to start is with the letters her ‘previous self’ provided. Descriptions of the Checquy Group who she worked for, how she came to work for them, and the fact that one of the leaders must be the one who attacked her give us a nice understanding of what is going on.

And while we learn that while she works for a supernatural spy agency, she pretty much leaves all the theatrics to others…Myfanwy’s just a bureaucrat and when Monday rolls around, it’s into the office as usual.

The Valiant Gizmo

Byte-Sized #1
Written by: Cullen Bunn
Art by: Nelson Blake II
Colored by: Snakebite cortez

This seems like the perfect comic for a chilly Christmas read. Byte-Sized starts with an escape from a military base and a ride on a long-haul truck across multiple state lines, but soon we’re in the suburbs with a family getting ready for the holidays.

Gizmo, the family dog loves this time of year because there are so many things for him to ‘play’ with and he loves grabbing low-hanging gifts from under the tree. He might have scampered off with too many gifts though as he runs face to face with the eyes of something hiding in the tree. Trying to warn his family of a potentially dangerous intruder, no one believes his concerns because of his gift stealing antics.

Will he be able to save his family from the intruder or will the escaped robot cause trouble for everyone?

This is a quick fun read that I’m looking forward to getting more of.

It’s a Wrap

All-in-all, this was a good day. It was fun getting to know little Gizmo and I thought the art in Byte-Sized #1 was pretty well done. The unfolding of Myfanwy’s previous life is always fun to learn as I get deeper into The Rook, and I am excited to hear pretty much any news about the new MCU releases. 2020 was a kinda big downer in terms of movies and I’m looking forward to Hollywood pushing itself out of the basement starting in 2021 – I just don’t want to see them granted any special privileges in this COVID world.

Let’s hope I can keep up this streak of Rambles…I’m up to 2 now!
