Baseball and Valheim

Today was a good day, so I figured perhaps it was time to throw together a ramble again. It’s been about 2 months since I published a ramble, and I miss them. They were good places to drop ideas on the games I’ve been playing, the movies I’ve been watching, and pretty much anything I felt like rambling about. Let’s see how it goes today.

First Spring Training Game

After what seems like forever, baseball is back. Last season was too short, and the fact that the Dodgers won the World Series really didn’t help. It’s been too long since my Angels have even made it to the playoffs, and here the Dodgers win the big show. I suppose it’s better than the Astros, but then, they didn’t even get the full force of their fan-imposed… cheating-inspired tour of shame. Oh well, perhaps fans will remember things this year and treat Astros to a piece of their minds. Cheaters should really be punished appropriately.

Anyway, the Angels took on San Francisco in their first Spring Training game today, and I was so happy to get a chance to watch it. Sure, I won’t be making any trips down to Arizona this year because of Covid-19, but I’m more than happy to check out the games on the MLB app on my iPad.

The Angels won the game 5–2 in 7 innings, and they did not look too bad. Jose Quintana didn’t have a lot of control but he was able to get out of trouble without giving up a run in the first and Luis Rengifo look pretty good picking up a double, a run, and an RBI. Jo Adell even picked up a walk and a run in what I hope will be his breakout season.

On the whole I think it was a nice game and it was fun to see the boys of summer out there in Arizona again. Meanwhile, the Padres lost their opener and the Dodgers took a 2–1 game from Oakland.

I’m really looking forward to a fun season in 2021.

First Steps in Valheim

Everyone else is playing it so I decided to give Valheim a shot…and it was enjoyable. The survival aspect reminds me of Wurm Online and I’m fairly used to having to build tools and structures to survive based on my time in Wurm.

I kinda like how Valheim lays out the first few missions and it’s much easier to get things rolling when starting out fresh. Building structures is pretty much based on finding wood and stone in the world and making a hammer which is much easier than having to mine iron, build a small anvil, and smith some nails for Wurm. There’s also a lot more resources needed to make a building in Wurm than Valheim.

Anyway, I’m just getting started and I’m enjoying myself. I’m excited to see where things go and I like the idea that there are PvE missions to tackle in order to move the world along. It gives a nice set of goals to shoot for while Wurm kinda kinda lets you meander to find your own purpose in the world.

It’s a Wrap

Baseball and an open-world survival game…I’m really enjoying things today. Actually, running around in Valheim is perfect for passing the time while watching a baseball game. But then again, reading a comic is good to do while watching baseball as is playing Civilization. Speaking off which, I’ve got the succession game to write up and publish and I’m hoping to get that moving this week.
