A Tie and A Bishop

Yesterday I felt good getting a ramble out for the first time in months, so I figured I’d attempt to create a streak. Sure, two in a row is not much of a streak, but it’s twice as many rambles as I’ve put together in a few months.

Anyway, today, I take a look at the second game of Spring Training for the Angels, where we get to see some of the everyday players who’ll hopefully carry my team to the playoffs. I also take a break to listen to the next couple of chapters of The Rook, where Myfanwy has lunch with her American counterpart and meets a long-lost relative.

The Usual Suspects

Today was the first opportunity for the regulars to get into a Spring Training game, and they took advantage of it.

Ohtani went 2 for 3, Pujols went 2 for 2, and Iglesias smacked a triple. Not too bad for the first game of the Spring. Even Trout picked up a hit, but as usual, pitching is still behind hitting this time of year. While some of the new faces pitched pretty well, others could use some more time to get into shape for the season.

It was a short 5 inning affair that saw the White Sox and Angels each score 4, so I guess ties are a thing. I’m just happy to be able to watch any baseball.

Another New Meeting

It’s once again been a while since I commented on my reading of The Rook, but I’ve continued listening to the audio. Last time I read through chapter 15, where Myfanwy learned that there is an American equivalent to the Checquy called the Croatoan. In the first chapter I read through today, we meet one of the leaders of that organization, Shantay. Shantay is a Bishop in the Croatoan, and the two court members seem to get along well as they discuss the serious matter of the Grafter appearance.

That’s not the only appearance they have to deal with though since in Chapter 16 Myfanwy comes face-to-face with her long lost sister.

As I mentioned before, this book’s pace keeps things happening in every chapter, and it’s a fun, engaging read.

It’s a Wrap

Baseball and reading are another good combination. As I mentioned yesterday, I can easily have a baseball game on in the background while I’m focused on something else. Yesterday it was Valheim while today was reading The Rook. All these activities only take a part of my attention, so they are good candidates for multitasking, and I try to get as much as I can get done at once as possible. Perhaps tomorrow will be a baseball game and something else…who knows.
