Found the Deadly Problem

Well after trying out the Deadly landscape difficulty setting the other day and getting completely destroyed I had to find out what was going on…so I created a new character.

I started up my second Beorning and once again I am on the Treebeard server with hopes to get some fun adventures in Middle Earth going on, and things were proceeding well. I ran through all the Introduction instance, talked to Radacast and killed a bunch of sickle flies and goblins and made it to Archet to see where things went wrong.

This time around I passed by the quest giver that would allow me to change the difficulty level with an understanding that I could up the difficulty before I hit level 11 and not suffer any negative consequences.

With normal difficulty levels I went about trying to figure out where things went so wrong during my first foray on Treebeard and it did not take long. The first quest giver beyond the one offering a difficulty level was ready to send me out after the Diseased Boars that were my downfall last time. Here’s the quest description…

Hmm, something I failed to see when I headed out on that quest was the level range for the quest. There I was, a level 3 Beorning, just out of the introduction instance and I was embarking on a level 6 quest.

That was the issue. Not the difficulty setting, though that may have play a part, but I think the bottom line is that when adjusting the difficulty level you need to pay attention. With so many levels of MMOs under my belt I got lazy. I did not pay attention, made things intentionally more difficult and took on a quest that was well above my level.

I need to pay more attention.
