A Transfer and Feinting

Today I get back to my reading and gaming as I just back into FFXIV and Dune.

In Final Fantasy I was able to transfer from Brynhildr to Goblin and while it took me about 5 minutes to log into my new server, I don’t mind that if I can play with my friends and guild mates. In the world of Dune, I meet the Duke at the center of the story and see how he interacts with his teenage son. We’re just about to head to the planet Arrakis and it’s arid climate, but we’ve got another day where the Atreides are packing up their things from Castle Caladan while Leto describes the political situation to his son.

Transfer to Goblin

My first mission during my game session today was to migrate my charater from the Brynhildr realm to where I wanted to go – Goblin. I have some friends over on Goblin so I wanted to be as close to them as possible since I was having difficulties moving my other character to Catuar. I guess Catuar is a bit more congested than Goblin because I was able to get over to my new server with Melodi pretty easily.

Once there, I finally was able to take control of my character and start making progress in the game.

I made it through my first three quests and so far things are a piece of cake. I mean, sure, I didn’t have to fight anything yet but running around Limsa Lominsa was a bit complicated since there are multiple levels I have to figure out.

In any case I picked up a few quests, completed 3 of them, and learned the Return spell so I can bind myself to certain areas. I also learned how the quick travel works in the game which I am pretty sure will come in handy down the road.

On the whole, it was a good little session and I am happy to be making rpogress on the server I want to be on. Soon, I hope to learn a bit about my class abilities so I can see if I chose my job wisely.

For the Father…Nothing

A skim of chapter 6 of Dune clearly reveals that it centers around our first meeting of Duke Leto, Paul’s father. He sees opportunities in the move to Arrakis as well as danger and he encourages Paul to look at the bigger picture. The “feint within a feint within a feint” that is the interplay of the great houses, the emperor, and the CHOAM Company. Leto is banking on the idea that the Freman of Arrakis can be leveraged by the Atreides to overcome the trap set by the Harkonnen and the Emperor. We’ll see in coming chapters how that works out.
