Roses and Potter

Roses are Red…and so is Ohio State…and so is Utah

This has to have been by far the best NCAA football game I watched this year.  Both teams had opportunities to win, both teams had chances to blow the game open, and it all resulted in a great game.  Sure, it wasn’t one of the crappy playoff games between one and four, two and three, but it was a great matchup.  It sure would have been nice to see Michigan or Cincinnati play as well as the underdog Utes did here.  And it reminded me of the old days when there were questions about who were the better teams based on how they played in their bowl games.  Clearly, Michigan and Cincinnati played horrible games while Ohio pulled out a great win.

This game and all the bowl games I watched really highlighted the fact that something has to be done about the SEC. College football is just not much fun when one team or a couple of teams in the same division completely dominate. There’s a reason people don’t like the Yankees in MLB or the Patriots in the NFL…people get tired of dominance. It’s boring to look at the papers (or the web for those of you living in the 2020s) every week to see Alabama or another SEC team at the top.

Well, I didn’t want to go off on the NCAA playoff system; I wanted to congratulate Ohio State and Utah in their great game.

Darkness over Harry Potter

I don’t seem to recall how dark the Harry Potter movies became after the first couple.  I guess I remember the last two were pretty dark and scary in parts, but I thought the 6 movies leading up to the finale(s) we much more light-hearted than they actually are.  As it stands, I just watched number 6…The Half-Blood Prince, and I am glad for my re-watch since I pretty much had forgotten everything that went on in the movie.

I certainly enjoyed the show this time around, but some of the destruction of Hogwarts and Diagon Alley was pretty depressing. And now that the movie is over and I’m looking at watching the 2-part finale, I’m staring at a Harry who doesn’t have any of his mentors …Sirus is gone… Dumbledore is gone… His parents are gone… Maybe I need to go read the books now that I’m finishing off the movies. Books always tend to dive deeper into things, and I think with this fresh re-watch under my belt, I can really get into the story of the books.

We’ll see…Perhaps I’ll just be too depressed after re-watching that I’ll put Potter back on the shelf for a while.

It’s a Wrap

Overall, today was a good day, and I hope you all had an interesting and enjoyable day as well.
