Lightly Caressed Games

Today I’m adding more games to my March Gaming Madness selection pool, trying to get to the magic 64 game count. I’m currently at 27 and am adding in 13 more today covering games that I’ve tried out but have put aside pretty much after an hour or 2.

The Rundown

I’ve got 3 categories today:
– ARPGs
– MMOs
– Single Player Games

The Goods

Two ARPGs are easy additions to my selection pool…Lost Ark and Diablo 3. Lost Ark is a game I’ve only played an hour in, but that’s pretty much because it just came out. It also has had some level of queuing that turned me off during the initial rush – I really did not want to waste my time waiting in a queue when I didn’t have a lot of time to game in the first place.

Diablo 3 is another story. I played both the original Diablo and the second installment and enjoyed each, eventually making it to the endgame of each of them. Diablo 3 is not a bad game, but for some reason, it never clicked with me to the point where I advanced beyond the first act. If this game wins, I’ll be happy to push to completion, but so far, Diablo 3 has been difficult for me to get into.

There are 3 MMOs that I include in this list as installed but not actually played for more than an hour. Those include Everquest 2, Warframe, and Genshin Impact. I’ve played much more of EQ than EQ2, but I did get a few characters created and advanced. I never made it beyond single-digit levels, though, so I don’t consider this a well-played game.

Warframe is an interesting game that I really wanted to get into playing. The problem I’ve had with it has been that I found it kinda complex for a casual game. In reality, the game may be straightforward, but I never spent enough time diving into it to understand all the intricacies of the game. As for Genshin Impact, I made it to look at the first city but never beyond. I think part of my trouble is a bit of confusion about character classes and such. Someday I would like to give this a real try, and maybe this tournament is my motivation to move this to go-to status.

The final category for today is single-player games. I’ve played from Red Dead Redemption 2, and I loved the first installment. I’ve played some Witcher 3 and Skyrim but never advanced much beyond the tutorial. Greedfall, Frost Punk, Mass Effect, and Cyberpunk 2077 also fall into the category of games I got through the tutorial with but pretty much stopped shortly after. Finally is Dark Souls II. Sure, with Elden Ring coming out soon, I could have easily put that in my selection pool, but I’m gonna stick with games that are already out. I may change my mind, but for now, I can feel good about adding Dark Souls II to my tournament.

It’s a Wrap

So with all the games I’ve tried out briefly, played for a while, and even those I’ve reached significant milestones in, I have amassed a total of 40 games for my selection pool.

I need at least 24 more, so I’ll take a look at my Steam library to see what I’ve skipped over but would be interested in playing.
