Figuring out How to Score the Fourth Quarter

For my Fourth Quarter scoring, I am doing things a bit differently than for the first 3 quarters. There’s more of a subjective nature to the scoring, and I invite readers to comment in support of their preferred contestant, which I’ll add to my calculations.

The Rundown

In any case, here are a few things of interest for today…

  • Angels Win 2 in a Row

After losing 4 in a row, my Angels have put together back-to-back victories again, and it seems they are back to their winning ways. I hope they keep this up.

  • Disco Won

Disco Elysium had a fought quarter but pulled out a win against Death Stranding, 93 to 90.

  • Final Wild Card ends, and we kick off Legends versus GW2

Today features the end of the wild card matches as Half-Life 2 completes its contest against Cyberpunk 2077, and we also kick off the 2nd Battle between seeded combatants. Legends of Aria faces off against Guild Wars 2, and it’s almost a David versus Goliath considering the indie nature of Legends of Aria and the popularity of GW2. In any case, this match gets started with a Metacritic battle unlike any so far.

Fourth Quarter Scoring

I’ve gone over the other scoring of my Rambling Redshirt’s Gaming Madness tournament, and they’re fairly straightforward or based on coverage counts. The first quarter is based on Metacritic score. The second quarter uses coverage from YouTube, Twitch, and Reddit. The third quarter uses Steam rating, blog coverage, and game population.

The fourth quarter is a bit different, though, since it will include my preference, so it is gonna be subjective To some degree. It will also include any bonuses based on comments made to support either competitor. I’m also going to include a factor based on the seeding of the combatant so that a #2 seed will have a higher RNG target than a #15 seed. Finally, I include a development score that is based on the frequency and number of updates and expansions for the contestants. I figure a game that is currently being maintained, supported, and expanded by developers should get a higher rating.

These 4 items will contribute to the fourth-quarter target, which each game will roll against.

It’s a Wrap

As I wind down my rambling today, I think my strategy for scoring the fourth quarter seems reasonable and will provide for some good finishes.

In any case, I’m looking forward to making the rest of today a good one, and I hope you all have a great day.
