Blaugust Day 8 – Campy Summer Shows Filling My DVR

Warcraft Legion on YouTube

I had to put this here so I can reference it when I want to see what the game is promising. We'll see if Blizzard comes through, but even if they do, I am not sure this will save the game.

Zoo, Under the Dome, The Strain

Why do summer television shows have to be so campy? Some have decent ideas and a premise with promise, but then the acting is just bad. Or the clichés just overwhelm the good ideas. I suppose it's kinda similar to the reason shows like Sharknado keep getting sequels. I don't necessarily dislike the shows and I can put up with the camp, but when there are better things on, they just seem to back up on the DVR. I currently have 12 episodes of these 3 that are waiting for me to find the time to watch. On the flip side, shows like Halt and Catch Fire are struggling to keep an audience so they can make a new season. I watched each episode of HCF no later than the day after it aired. And Mr. Robot…or Big Crazy Family Adventure – I watch these right away, sometimes even dealing with commercials while watching them live. In any case, even with watching a few episodes of these shows today, my DVR is getting full of campy shows.

It's still not too late to join Blaugust – just go to the initiative page at Tales of the Aggronaut or take a look at the Blaugust Nook on Anook.

  1. I grew to despise Under the Dome toward the end of the 1st season. I felt like it was insulting my intelligence.

Zoo is one I’m still enjoying, but we’ll see if that lasts.

I’m not into zombies at all, so I’ve got no interest in the Strain, despite all the word of mouth that it’s really enjoyable.

My campy summer fun is Killjoys. It’s got very dark moments too, but overall it just puts a smile on my face for some reason.

    • I watched the first episode of The Killjoys and enjoyed it. I have 6 of them on my DVR, but haven’t decided if it is too camp yet. I watched the second episode of Dark Matter, SyFy’s other new show, last night and enjoyed it too. Hopefully they will both prove to be worth the storage space on my machine. One that I didn’t even mention, but saw an commercial for was Extant. I could not stand that show and dropped it completely after the 2nd episode.

  2. I wouldn’t call The Strain “campy” but Zoo lost my interest after a couple of episodes and I never watched Under the Dome, so I can’t comment on that one. I am too behind on The Strain though, as I was so busy with other shows. Now that Halt is over, I can focus on getting caught up.
