My top 5 shows from the week ending August 8

Well yesterday I could not find a picture of my horse in Wurm Online so I went ahead next time I logged in and took this picture.

But instead of looking at Wurm again today, I wanted to look at some of the Summer television shows I watched this week. I have to say that this was not my favorite week of the shows I tend to watch.

True Blood, on its last season, has not been very good. I think it's lost a lot of the creativity that the first few seasons had and I have not found it too interesting this season.

New show Manhattan was number 5 on my top five list this week. In The Prisoner's Dilemma, Winter's team tries to build an implosion device quick enough to gain some valuable plutonium that just arrived at the base. It was an interesting tale and one that focused on the plight of the women on the base along with the growing conflict between the new guy, Charlie and Frank, lead scientist on 'the alternate' team. Pretty good second episode as it continued to develop the characters.

The Last Ship episode 7, SOS, was number 4 on my top five of the week. The episode was not my favorite and suffered from the what I am calling the 'Star Trek' problem – sending the bridge crew on away missions and into danger in every episode. While it makes for a good story and ensures that the characters you care for are involved every week, I think it is a completely 'made for TV' scenario. And we are taught once again why you don't send the captain off the ship and into danger.

My watching of Defiance is a bit behind the current episodes, but I think the show I watched was one of the best this season, and I am liking this season much more than the first. Episode 6, This Woman's Work brings a lot of things together – Irisa confides in Tommy about her 'killing but not killing', Stahma goes off on her fellow Castithan women, and Nolan and the audience learn a bit more about Pottinger. I think the best part of the episode, was the emotion I felt during the fight between Churchill and the Gulannee – one the most impacting scenes this season for me.

Number 2 this week would have to be Sharknado 2:The Second One. I got exactly what I expected from this show. It was entertaining and enjoyable. Nothing here is going to win anything other that awards for campiness and bad acting, but it was fun, just like the first one. The homage to Airplane at the start and all the cameos were just icing on the cake. Watching a shark eat Wil Wheaton and Kelly Osborne was just great and made this number 2 for me this week.

Taking first place for me this week was The Leftovers. While this show has been extremely depressing and seemingly getting more depressing each week, the week's episode, Guest, seemed to offer a little hope. Nora's trip to New York offers insights to the rest of the world in this 'post-rapture' scenario. They still don't know if this was the rapture or what exactly happened, but you get to see that there are a lot of people looking for answers in this episode. And a lot of people similar to the Guilty Remnant that think they know the answers. What gave me more enjoyment from this episode than most of the others was that we finally get a sense of hope. Even though Wayne is extremely reminiscent of Spock's half brother in Star Trek V, he gives hope, and takes away Nora's pain. I think that hope in such a bleak show is why I this is my favorite show I watched this week.
