Morning Ramble about League, Aliens, and a Star Trek Marathon

I had a nice relaxing day off from work on the last Friday of the year, but I didn’t get everything I wanted to get done completed.

League of Legends

I played way too much LoL and violated one of the limitations I wanted to set on myself for the game…I kept playing after losing 2 games in a row. Actually, I played a bunch of matches and won quite a few, bringing my rank up to Bronze II.

My current strategy of queueing for Jungle 1st and Support 2nd seems to be getting me into champ select pretty quickly and more often than not, I’m playing Jungle and can go with Xin.

He’s my current project…work with him in the jungle to get back into helping ALL lanes. He does tend to be a bit squishy though.

As mentioned, I violated my goal of stopping play after losing 2 matches in a row, and while I attained Bronze II ranking, my violation saw me drop back to Bronze III. I’ll get back, and I know I’ll move beyond Bronze soon.

I just need to stick to my goals of stopping play after losing 2 games in a row.

Aliens: More Than Human – Issue #1

Aliens:More Than Human Issue 1I saw this comic was leaving Comixology Unlimited on January 3rd so I figured I’d try to read through and see what it was all about before it became unavailable. Written by John Arcudi with art by Zach Howard and Mark Irwin, the comic was the first I’ve read in the Alien universe.

It has many of what I expected from the movie series. Aliens, androids, dumb humans, and betrayal all make an appearance. The general story is that a group of miners discover an ancient city on a planet and a bunch of scientists have been brought in to excavate the site. Only problem is, the miners seem to have found something that they want to keep secret and the scientists suffer the consequences.

The art is pretty nice with good detail of the aliens and the city the prospectors discovered. The flow seems good and I was able to understand how all the images fit together from page to page.

There could have been a bit more of the Aliens and I am a bit disappointed that the scientists seem to simply be put in the book to provide the background of the story, but I can live with it.

On the whole, I’d rate it a C+.

Star Trek Marathon

I always love New Year’s as there are so many different TV marathons. One of my favorites is the Star Trek marathon. Sure, I’ve seen all the episodes dozens of times, but it’s still fun to see them ‘live’ on regular TV. We watched Omega Glory, The Ultimate Computer, Balance of Terror, and Arena while doing other stuff around the house. Not a bad group of episodes to see, it makes me want to get back to Star Trek Online…but I’ve got other priorities right now.

There’s also an ongoing marathon of Mythbusters that I might take a look at.
