The Comeback Falls Short

This was a mess of a game. It started when the Angels put a reliever on the mound to start the game. They basically went into the game knowing it was gonna be one for the bullpen to win. The problem was that the bullpen has been so overworked that to ask them to start and finish a game well was asking for too much. So something had to give and it was Taylor Cole who gave up 3 runs in 1 1/3 innings to start things off. Jim Johnson didn’t do any better a few innings later, giving up 4 runs in an inning. In the end, the bullpen spotted the Athletics 8 runs for the offense to try to overcome without thier star…Mike Trout.

One Run Short

Well, they tried. The offense stepped up and drove in 7 runs but couldn’t get the 8th and 9th. The biggest star was Francisco Arcia who just pitched on Saturday. He smacked 2 hits including his 3rd home run of the year. Sadly though, even though the team picked up 11 hits, they were only 4 for 13 with runners in scoring position. The result was an 8-7 loss that dropped the Angels back under .500 while propelling the Athletics to 2 1/2 behind Houston for 1st place in the AL West.

So while the division has become exciting my team isn’t involved except as a spoiler. It’s sad that injuries have decimated my team to the extent that they’re not getting to enjoy the fun of summer but then as they say, there’s always next year.

Arcia gets my Player of the Game and if he keeps going like this, he’s gonna be giving Ohtani a run for his money.
