93 Days Until San Diego Comic-Con 2016

Based on the previous couple of posts, it is easy to see that the Eisner Awards honor comics of many forms, not just superhero comics.  In fact, many comics these days have nothing to do with superheroes and are more focused on good story telling – you don’t need an superhero to tell a good story.  I think the film industry popularizes the idea that comics are all superheroes, but even in movies there are plenty based on comics that have no superhero – 300, Whiteout, Ghost World, and Sin City to name a few.  I’ve actually found that comics that have a focus other than superheroes are sometime better than those featuring someone with powers.  In either case, the stories tend to be less about the abilities of the characters, and more aobut their interactions and behaviors, just like any tale.
