MacGyver needs a Flashpoint and Korea Wins Again and Again

SKT vs RNG

Well RNG couldn’t make the comeback. They played a good first game but the last 3 showed why SKT belongs in the semifinals. Wolf didn’t do as well on Zyra this game, getting caught a few times, but it was still fun watching her again. SKT looks pretty impressive heading into the semis.

The Flash episode 2: Paradox

20161016-theflashI haven’t been a big reader of DC comics in the past, though I’m starting to get into them more now, but I have heard of Flashpoint before. I’m not 100% certain but I think it’s when Flash goes back in time and messes things up…actually I believe it’s also related to the ‘new 52’ and Rebirth storylines somehow. In anycase, the TV show has experienced a Flashpoint and things are pretty messed up. The first episode of the season saw Barry living his dream with both a mother and father happily alive, but that wasn’t to last. He got a few months of happiness but had to go back and change time again to prevent catastrophic problems.

In this episode we learn the consequences of changing time repeatedly…things get messed up and none of Team Flash are talking with each other. Not only that, but Draco Malfoy is a CSI for the police that specializes in meta humans. And he doesn’t like Barry that much. In any case, the bottom line is that Flash can’t keep changing time or there’ll be some major issues so he’s gotta stick with the timeline he’s in. That means his parents are gone, Cisco is pissed at him because his brother is gone and Barry won’t go back and change time to save him, and something mysterious is up with Caitlin. It looks like this episode is the real start of season 3 now that the time changing stuff is all behind us.

EDG vs ROX

The next quarterfinals featured the best of Korea vs the best of China, or at least the top seeds from each region. So far, Korea has been dominating with SSG and SKT moving on to the next stage. As for champs, there’s been a lot of Jhin, Olaf, and Kennen selections, Karma and Cait have been in a bunch of games and of course, I’m happy to see Zyra. I guess Zyra has a pretty big presence in Korea as opposed to what we see here in NA. Sometimes, I feel like I’m the only one playing her.

In any case, it seems Korea is just so much better than every other region. With a Caitlyn/Zyra bot lane, ROX pretty much were untouchable with a 13/5/28 stat line for the first 2 games. EDG made a series out of it though, when they put up a solid 3rd game and Deft redeemed himself on Caitlyn – he finally made a difference in the game and helped EDG to their first quarterfinals win. ROX didn’t make it easy though until minute 30 where EDG pulled off and ace and grabbed baron. The fourth game saw both Aureion Sol and Zyra banned and EDG was holding their own until they gave up first blood, and second, and third, and fourth – 4 kills for ROX at minute 9…oh, I take that back, EDG did score one kill so it was 1–4. They did seem to get a boost and start to turn things during minute 13, but ROX kept the pressure on and prooved victorious. The MVP here was clearly Peanut who took Olaf to a 11/0/5 stat line and was involved in every ROX kill.

So now we have 3 of the 4 semi finalists and they all hail from Korea. The only possible champ other than one from Korea is to be decided by the last quarterfinal matchup. H2K from Europe vs the wildcard Albus Nox Luna from CIS.

MacGyver Gets One More Chance

20161016-macgyverHmm…I loved the MacGyver series from the 80s. The acting may not have been the best but the concepts and story fit together…at least as far as I recall. Drop Mac into any situation and you knew he’d find some way to to get the job done. This new series is not only lacking on acting but the writing seems to miss the idea of the original series. I guess they’re going for the ensemble problem solving angle, but it’s just not working for me so far. I mean…going to a golf course when asked to find a doctor was just bad. At the time, the 80s show was creative and unique…now, this series is just played out and seem cliche.

I’ll give this show one more chance, but it’s not looking like it’s gonna be sticking around on my TiVo.
