#2018MMM Great Adaptations Round One

2018MMM Great Adaptations Round One

A quick rundown of the contests that went on last night shows most top seeded combatants were successful in their endeavour. One higher seed though was knocked out early and I was surprised. The 7th seeded Coatimundi was defeated by the 10th seed Aye-aye and I’m really suspicious of this outcome. I suppose the weird fingers of the Aye-aye were the undoing of the Coati but I thought the nocturnal Aye-aye would easily be taken out by the Coati in his natural habitat. But then I guess some animals don’t really have their heart in these battles.

The other contest I was surprised over was the one between the 9th ranked Platypus and the 8th seeded Maned Rat. I mean…really, a rat beat a Platypus? I guess if the rat’s skin is so tough that you can’t breach it, you might give up, but I thought the duck-billed beast would have tried harder… slap him with your tail or hit him with your bill at least. Oh well…my brackets are, as usual, all messed up now.

Here are the blow-by-blow recounts of the round one contests:

The next round I fear will feature more of the same since some of the critters that advanced are clearly outgunned. Here are my selections:

  • Pygmy Hippo (winner) vs. Maned Rat
  • Cheetah (winner) vs. Aye-aye
  • Water Deer vs. Tasmanian Devil (winner)
  • Jaguarundi (winner) vs. Crabeater Seal

For this second round, things could be tough for the Jaguarundi as I believe the contest will be taking place on the home court of the Seal…though both got a nice snack in the first round.

Tonight though, we see the Antessesors battle it out in round one and these contests could have some interesting surprises.
