A Look at the Week Ahead

Daily Ramble 185: A Look at the Week Ahead

Today I ramble about taking a look at the new Marvel Unlimited Releases for the week while the MMO Book Club begins voting on the April cycle. I also look to see where I might think an upset might come from in the 2018MMM round two battles tonight.

Marvel Unlimited New Weekly Releases

Marvel releases comics to the Unlimited platform about 6 months after they come out in paper format so this week we are seeing comics from September 20, 2017. While I’ve been reading other Marvel issues that I’m calling “modern” from 2012, I thought I might try to be even more cutting edge and read some issues that were just released to the Unlimited app.

Here’s what I’ve found this week that were released in September 2017:

X-Men: Gold (2017) #12

Venomverse (2017) #3

Venom (2016) #154

U.S. Avengers (2017) #10

Thor vs. Hulk – Champions of the Universe (2017) #2

The Totally Awesome Hulk (2015) #23

Star Wars Annual (2017) #3

Spider-Men II (2017) #3

Royals (2017) #8

Poe Dameron (2016) #19

Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man (2017) #4

Monsters Unleashed (2017) #6

Luke Cage (2017) #5

Journey to Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Captain Phasma (2017) #2

Jean Grey (2017) #7

Invincible Iron Man (2016) #11

Generations: Ms. Marvel & Ms. Marvel (2017) #1

Doctor Strange (2015) #25

Avengers (2016) #11

America (2017) #7

Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows (2016) #11

All-New Guardians of the Galaxy (2017) #10

None of these are Number Ones so maybe I’ll use them as a guide to start up a new series.

MMO Book Club April Voting Begins

April is coming soon and with it, cycle 11 will start for the MMO Book Club. This’ll be the 3rd opportunity I have to influence the game the members play during the month and I’m looking into what I’d like to try out. Both my previous votes were in losing causes so I’m gonna put a bit more thought into this cycle.

  • Neverwinter [Extend Cycle One Month] – http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/neverwinter – We’ve been in NWO for February and March so I’m not really sure it’ll get a 3rd month though I wouldn’t mind since I still haven’t reached max level.
  • Star Trek Onlinehttp://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online – This is a cool game that I’ve tried out a few times in the past AND it’s on the same chat platform as NWO so we could easily migrate to this MMO.
  • EVE Onlinehttps://www.eveonline.com/ – I’ve actually started back into this game on a whim this month and I’m remembering all the things I liked about the game.
  • Rift Primehttps://www.trionworlds.com/rift/en/ – This is another game I’ve started up again this month and I’m planning on continuing with my new characters regardless of the book club vote.
  • Blade & Soulhttp://www.bladeandsoul.com/en/ – I’ve never tried this game but would be interested in giving it a try.
  • Star Wars: The Old Republichttp://www.swtor.com/ – I’ve enjoyed the times I’ve played this game but it’s one that’s never stuck, a book club run would motivate me to stick with it to max level.
  • Elder Scrolls Onlinehttps://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/home – I’ve been meaning to get back to this game at some point since it seems to have staying power for a lot of people.
  • Black Desert Onlinehttps://www.blackdesertonline.com/ – I tried this for a month and enjoyed what I saw but didn’t push forward with the weird crafting and housing system though I’d have no problem giving this another shot.

2018MMM Antecessors & When the Kat’s Away Round 2 Tonight

With the Cape Town Baboon the highest seed to fall last week, we’ll see if the Antecessors or When the Kat’s Away divisions provide any further drama (compared to the Loyola Chicago in the NCAA Basketball Tournament). There are some potentials at least…

I’m kinda favoring the #10 Octopus over the #2 Anaconda for an upset but the snake might be able to overcome the intelligence of the Octopus…I also wonder if the Eagle Owl could possibly take out the Komodo Dragon but that’d be a tough one to pick.

On the Antecessor side of things, I could see the #7 Homo Floresiensis putting up a good fight against the #2 Amebelodon but I’m thinking most of the seedings are pretty accurate for these guys. That means the big battle could come down to the Thylacoleo and the Andrewsarchus.
