Sometimes You Frighten Me

Daily Ramble 188: Sometimes You Frighten Me

So many things going on today that it was hard to narrow my ramblings down to 3 subjects. First…it’s Opening Day in MLB and I’m really excited to see how my Angels do this year – I think they’ve got a chance to go far. Second…HBO just realeased a new trailer for Westworld season 2 and I can’t wait till April 22 when the season starts. Finally, the MMO Book Club finished the first round of voting for the April game of the month and there are 3 remaining contenders. Busy day today and I haven’t even touched on the #2018MMM Sweet Sixteen yet…that’ll be another post.

Go Angels!

Opening Day is finally here and all teams are equal. Will the Padre’s go on a tear and take the NL West? Will Houston repeat as World Champs? Will the Yankees have enough pitching to support their offense or will they lose games 10–9 all year? IT’s all up for grabs.

I love this time of the season where everyone can legitimately say their team has a chance. There’ve been plenty of years where teams that were written off by “experts” have turned things on their head…and plenty of times when “can’t miss” teams have fallen by the wayside before the All-Star break.

Of course I’m pulling for my Angels and I think they’ve got a pretty good team this year. Sure things will have to fall into place and they’ll have to get past the defending World Champions, but I think they have a legitimate chance…Only time will tell.

New Westworld Trailer

HBO released a new trailer for Westworld Season 2 and I think it really builds up the hype.

From the looks of things, there will continue to be a mixing of timeframes since I definitively saw William AND the Man in Black and I think that’s a good thing. I still haven’t seen any sign of Ford though so he may really be dead and without a robot backup – though there is a non-skinned machine in the trailer that could be anyone.

Once again, there seems to be indication that there will be some time spent in Shogun World and I’m looking forward to seeing what they put together for that.

In any case, April 22nd can’t get here any time soon enough.

Runoff Vote

The first round of the MMO Book Club voting for April’s Game of the Month is over and there are 3 finalists…

  • Eve Online
  • Rift Prime
  • Elder Scrolls Online

I’m actually good with any of the 3.

I’ve recently started back up in Eve Online to see how things have been going there after all this time, but I think Summer might be a better time for this since there are usually more wars going on when the kids are all out of school.

Rift Prime is a game I’ve started up as well with both a Mage on the Defiant side and a Cleric on the Guardians side. While I love the soul mechanism for classes and the ability to make a tanky mage or a ranged warrior, it does make things a bit complicated starting out – even though I’ve started up a couple characters I’m not sure if I’ve got the souls I want to focus on yet. I’m also not sure this’ll win since so many people seem to like the action targeting of newer MMOs over the tab targeting of older theme park games.

Elder Scrolls is one of those action targeted games and one that I’m thinking of getting back into sometime soon anyway. From my understanding there is a lot to this game and the story that is told is a lot of fun. I could easily see this game winning and myself enjoying leveling with the MMO Book Club group.

The winner should be announced this weekend in time to download and get character created for the start of April on Sunday.
