2 Starts and Another Career

Daily Ramble 202: 2 Starts and Another Career

Today’s ramble actually covers 3 starts since I’m really only starting the new Industry career agent in Eve Online. The other starts mentioned include the rookie Angel pitcher, Jaime Barria who picked up his first win in a sweep of the Rangers and the first issue of Astonishing X-Men. Three pretty good starts for the day.

Rookie’s First Win

The Angels continued their winning ways yesterday behind a recently promoted starting pitcher – Jaime Barria. One of a few players hailing from Panama to grace the Angels’ system, he’s the Angels’ 7th rated prospect and it was definitely a shot in the arm that he came up and pitched well.

Sure, he only went 5 innings but the starting rotation needs all the help it can get these days. Shoemaker is still out and doctors don’t seem to be able to figure out what’s wrong; JC Ramirez is probably out for the season expecting to undergo Tommy John surgery; and Andrew Heaney hasn’t even pitched this season because of inflammation. With all these injuries the team has already used 7 different starters and for tonight’s game, they called up Nick Tropeano who hasn’t pitched since 2016 after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

With that said and his strong 1 hit, 1 run outing, I give my Player of the Game to Barria and hope that he continues to be a contributor to a winning Angels 2018 campaign.

On to the Industry Career Path

I finished off the military career missions to get my feet wet with PvE combat in Eve and I was enjoying it. I was still flying around in my Venture which was more of a mining ship than a combat ship though so I figured I should learn some industry to see if I could eventually craft a better combat ship.

Voenins Blune was the Industry career agent and he got me started on the Making Mountains of Molehills questline and it was fortunate that I was experienced in my Venture. Yup…industry requires mining and the Venture was pretty good at it.

One thing I like about the recent updates, though I’m not sure when it was implemented, is that ships have a cargo hold for items and a separate hold for ore. This makes it easy to keep track of what I’m mining and it seems like I can mine more material since I don’t have to worry about carrying too many items that will interfere with the space for ore. No longer do I have to chose between ammo and rocks.

I do think these early missions need to provide you with something to do while you’re waiting on blueprints to be used. There’s no real reason to sit around waiting as an industry job is cooking and that time could be spent learning or doing something else.

First Look at Astonishing X-Men #1

Life of X – Part One by Charles Soule and Jim Cheung. Published by Marvel Comics in 2017.
This is the start of a story arc that looks pretty interesting and since it’s written by Charles Soule who I really like from Letter 44, I had to give it a chance.

The idea, as far as I can tell so far, is that the Shadow King is out to cause trouble and take over the world. At least he’s targeting mutant telepaths who can assist him in breaking out of the astral plane so he can take over reality.

He’s messed with the wrong mutant though, because Psylocke is able to not only thwart his attack on her, but she recruits a team to venture into the astral plane to stop him. Logan, Gambit, Rogue, Beast, and Fantomex head into the Shadow King’s realm to do battle for the fate of the universe.

It’s a fun premise to get the gang back together and I’m happy to see the interplay among characters that is somewhat familiar. Not only that, but it remains me that I’ve gotta start watching the 2nd season of Legion since the Shadow King features prominently in that story as well.

My first impression of this issue is an A-.
