Looking Forward to the #2018MMM Finals

Daily Ramble 194: Looking Forward to the #2018MMM Finals

I’m really looking forward to the 2018 March Mammal Madness Championship match. The two competitors are definitely deserving of being in the contest and Ithink realistically, either could win. My money is on the Pygmy Hippo though since the Amebelodon has been fought up kinda badly in it’s last few contests. We’ll see tonight though.

I also ramble about the great game Shohei Ohtani had yesterday as designated hitter and how I’m running missions in my mining ship in Eve. Quite a busy day with a bunch of rambling…

2018MMM Finals Preview

Tonight is the Championship Match of the 2018 March Mammal Madness featuring the dashing Pygmy Hippo against the daunting Amebelodon. These two have dominated their opponents so far, each defeating 5 lesser animals to advance to the finals.

Of course my bracket was destroyed almost immediately as the Praying Mantis beat out the Gold Crest in the Wild Card round. But even without the chance of my bracket performing well, I’ve enjoyed reading about all the contests. Some were determined by the environment where the contest took place (gelatinous saltwater Octopus) and others simply because one of the combatants had been injured in a previous round (looking at you Anaconda).

In this finale, I fear the Amebelodon may be at a disadvantage because of the difficult battles it’s had getting here. The flipping of the Doedicurus really hurt the big elephant and while stepping on the crocodile gave him the win, his trunk will never be the same after that croc bite. The Hippo on the other hand only had to sit in the Central Park Lake and watch as the humans knocked out the Coyote and took it away. No effort whatsoever and actually, it gave the hippo a chance to cool off from the Serengeti battle with the Cheetah.

Even though the Amebelodon is dramatically larger I’m gonna pick the Pygmy Hippo for the 2018 March Mammal Madness Champion.

Sho Time!

Shohei Ohtani once again goes down in the record books as the first player to do a thing in nearly 100 years. This time was hitting a home run as a “position player” during the first week of a season in which they also started as a pitcher. Actually, Shohei got the win on Sunday as the starting pitcher and went 3–4 on Tuesday with a Home Run, 2 Runs and 3 RBIs and he looked like a hitter. So far, it’s been a lot of fun watching him out there in either role and the fact that the Angels won the game 13–2 made for a good day.

In all, 5 Angels homered in the game – Ohtani, Trout, Upton, Valbuena, and Rivera – on the way to their first win against the Indians in 13 tries. It’s nice to see them shake off that losing streak and I hope they continue to play well in the series finale on Wednesday.

On the pitching side, Garrett Richards recovered from a shaky first inning that saw him give up a 2 run home run. He pitched 5 2/3 innings and picked up 9 strike outs with only that HR as the sole hit. It was good to see him shake off that first inning and his first outing of the year…I think he’s ready to get rolling this season now.

With his first HR as an Angel and his 3–4 outing, I give my player of the game to Ohtani again.

What to do in my Venture

I’m not really sure why the tutorial left me with a Venture mining ship and not something that I could partake in some basic low level combat in, but I suppose I could shoot asteroids. In fact, that’s what I’ll probably do to gather the materials for using the blueprint they gave me. Yeah, they game me a blueprint for an Incursus but not enough minerals to actually build the dang thing. Looking back now, I suppose I could have just bounced back down to a Velator corvette but I was in a shiny frigate – why go back to a smaller ship??? In any case, I figured since the ship was built for mining I’d affix some rock shooters on it and pick up some drones for self defense. But instead of rolling out to the local asteroid field to mine, I decided to try out the Business Career Agent.

This made things real easy since the first task was simply a courier mission…I’m used to those since all MMOs have them…take item X from here to there and come back…we’ll give you money!!! Not difficult, and with the autopilot things were simple. I went and came back got my money and was looking for the next task when my alarm went off and I had to get to work…oh well, next time.
