#2018MMM Elite Trait Results

The Elite Trait round of the #2018MMM tournament provided some huge battles that will go down in March Mammal Madness history…

The battle of the titans in the Antecessor division takes place in the urban jungle of St. Louis and the large mammals of old are not comfortable in the modern day city. Regardless, the #1 seeded Doedicurus tank takes on the #2 Amebelodon shovel tusk elephant and the ground shudders. While both beasts would rather eat plants, the Amebelodon is behaving particularly aggressive towards the encroaching tank. With his tusks and trunk leading the way, the ancient elephant flips the Doedicurus on it’s back and like any turtle, the tank can’t correct the problem. As my favorite from the Antecessor division struggles to right himself, time runs out and the Amebelodon wins the match.

In one of the bloodiest and brutal contests of the tournament the #1 seeded Pygmy Hippo tramples and crushes the poor #2 seeded Cheetah! Even with a surprising home field advantage in the Serengeti, the Cheetah proves no match against the beastly Hippo, really posing no challenge what-so-ever. I knew the Cheetah was fragile and prone to injury from larger animals but I never excepted an herbivore to take down this mighty cat.

In the non-mammal (When the Kat’s Away) division, the #1 seed Orinoco Crocodile gets a lucky break against the #2 seed Anaconda in that there really was no contest. The Anaconda suffered fatal injuries from his most recent battle with the Komodo Dragon and the venom of the dragon finally took hold of the snake. The Crocodile was left all alone with a dead adversary and was able to finally get a decent meal for the first time in the tournament.

Finally in the battle of the urban jungle we head to the cloud forest of Peru where #4 seed Coyote takes on the #7 seed Porcupine. These guys have survived a lot but then they are highly adaptable for life among humans…not so much for a cloud forest, but they adapt. As the pincushion scampers up a tree for safety, the Coyote surprisingly shows he can climb too…so surprised is the Porcupine that he falls outta the tree and onto his own quills. With that, the end is in site as the Coyote nips incessantly at the face of the rodent and eventually flips the critter on his back. Another meat-eater gets a welcome meal during the tournament.

So there we have it. We’re down to the Final Roar!

1 Orinoco Crocodile vs. 2 Amebelodon
1 Pygmy Hippo vs. 4 Coyote

The battles continue on Monday with the Champion crowned on Wednesday and at this point, I’m thinking the Amebelodon may have the upper tusk but the Coyote is looking to follow in the paw prints of fellow canine, the 2016 winner the Tundra Wolf. Regardless of who reigns supreme I’m looking forward to some good contests.
