3000 Hits!!!

Daily Ramble 225: 3000 Hits!!!

He didn’t do it at Anaheim Stadium but the day after he hit #2999 at home, Albert Pujols collected his 3000th hit in Seattle.

Clearly he gets my Player of the Game award today but with 3000 hits he joins a pretty rare group. While there are only 32 players who’ve made it to 3000 hits, there are only 4 who have 3k hits and 600 home runs – Albert, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and Alex Rodriguez.

Earlier in the day, Pujols had a chance to talk with Ichiro Suzuki who picked up his 3000th hit a couple of years ago, but Ichiro was only a spectator during the game since he retired a few days ago.

Albert became the 2nd Player to reach the 3000 mark in an Angel uniform as Rod Carew was the first to reach that milestone with the team.

As far as the game went, Albert ended up going 2 for 4 (3001 hits) with 2 RBIs and a run scored. Trout also had a great game going 3 for 5 and with a single, double , and triple. To top it off, 3 Angel pitchers shut out the Mariners starting with a nice 6 2/3 inning, 8 strike out appearance from Garrett Richards.

The bottom line is the Angel offense is firing on all cylinders and the pitching is coming around. The 4 game winning streak is clearly a sign the troubles of a week ago are behind the team and they’re ready to forge ahead in first place.
