Starting LOTRO, Beating Baltimore, and Vengence

Daily Ramble 223: Starting LOTRO, Beating Baltimore, and Vengence

Angels win, Logan fights, and a warden breaks outta jail…it was a good day.

What’s past is prologue for a Warden

Actually, Catathein and I started up the tutorial or introduction for the Race of Man regardless of what class they play. I thought that there might be a bit more to things with the fact that Catathein was a Warden but the NPCs all seemed to treat her just like they treated my previous run with a Hobbit Minstrel.

In any case, we got to meet Strider for the first time and since she’s of the Race of Man and female to boot, Cat was immediately smitten. When he told us to “hurry!” she nearly kicked me to get me moving towards our escape. And help us escape he did…though he never did explain how we were so easily taken captive by the brigands on our way through the Chetwood. It was my understanding that the road was safe – oh well.

After we got outta our cell is when Strider really kicked things into gear as he fought off the brigands as Cat and I grabbed some weapons the ranger brought with him. And after equipping our Javelin and Spear he even gave us a few pointers on how to use these items. Then set us off to rescue some other prisoners.

We easily found Celandine, defeated her captors, found Mundo Sackville-Baggins, and freed him, but then…

We ran into Strider and Amdir confronting a Black Rider. This was a bit more than we were prepared for at the beginning of our journey. I mean, we had just learned to point the sharp end of our javelin at the enemy a few moments before and now there’s a Nazgul. Fortunately, Strider and Amdir scare him off but not before Amdir takes a serious wound from a morgul-blade.

We’re gonna have to head to Archet to try to get help for Amdir and figure out more about how Cat and I fit into this tale.

2 to Go

With Tuesday’s victory, the home curse was broken by the Angels and Wednesday they buried it. Both pitching and batting performed well and it was nice seeing the team back on track. This is how the Angels started the season and how I expect them to play and it’s nice to see again. At least the first 8 innings were – I really don’t like what happened in the ninth but it was irrelevant to the outcome.

Andrew Heaney pitched a great 6 innings and left with a 9–1 lead. He scattered 5 hits and struck out 2 but he seemed to be in command the whole time. On the offensive side, Trout, Pujols, Upton and Maldonado knocked it outta the park and Simmons went 2 for 3 – it was a fun thing to see. Baltimore was just what the doctor ordered for the struggling Angels and I’m hoping they carry this momentum through Thursday’s game and then on to Seattle.

With 2 solid hits Wednesday, Albert Pujols moved himself within 2 hits of 3000 and earns my Player of the Game. He’s got one more chance to get there during this home stand and I he plays like he did Wednesday, he’ll make it.

First Look at Old Man Logan #3

Berserker: Part Three by Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino. Published by Marvel Comics, 2016.
This issue moves right on from the second and while that focused on Logan and Hulk, this follows the encounter between Logan and Hawkeye. Once again though, this is not the Hawkeye Wolverine expected. Instead of Clint Barton, Logan’s friend, this is Kate Bishop…the other Hawkeye.

She’s up for helping once he explains his story but she’s not willing to kill with him. They go after Mysterio and when they show up at his previous hideout, Wolverine goes a bit aggro and starts cutting up the current residents. Kate’s seen enough and she draws down on him and calls in the calvary. With Old Man Steve Rogers showing up it really feels like a nursing home.

In all seriousness though, this issue continues the wonderful writing and art. I love all the character lines on the elderly heroes and the fight scenes are great!

This issue easily receives another A- from me and another confirmation that I’m gonna keep reading.
