If Only Trout Could Pitch

Trout almost did it all yesterday. He went 3 for 4 with a home run but no one else did much of anything. Seven men left on base is not how you win games. You gotta get more people to actually hit the ball – that’s why they call them hitters. Right now they’d more likely be called outers since they can’t seem to do anything but get out – through popups right to someone or striking out.

Can’t Get A Hit With RISP

Upton in particular is not playing very well. He seems to be in a really bad funk batting .161 with runners in scoring position which is the 4th lowest stat among qualifying batters. That’s gotta be frustrating.

So in any case, the Angels are back down to the .500 mark. Losing 8 of 12 will do that and when your pitching staff is so decimated that you’ve gotta put a reliever out there to start a game day after day it really doesn’t look promising. Maybe we can teach Trout to pitch. Ohtani can do it, why can’t the best player in baseball do it?

Needless to say, Trout is my Player of the Game. I’m sure he’s getting tired of carrying so much weight – these teammates need to support him better and the training staff needs to figure out how to keep people off the disabled list.

For pitching Deck’s 3 innings of shut out ball were decent but we need healthy starters so the relieves can relieve. Today, Andrew Heaney (4-6 3.94 ERA) goes against fellow leftie Alex Wood (5-5 3.84 ERA) in the rubber match. It’d sure be nice to see the Angels win this series.
