Freeway Series Victory!

It sure was nice to see the Angels come from behind and take 2 outta 3 from the Dodgers this weekend. It seems like every game is a nail biter these days though as you never know if the team will be able to come back or if they’ll give up the go ahead run in the ninth. As it was on Sunday, Matt Kemp singled in the 9th and it looked like with the tying run on base the bullpen was gonna see if how close they could get to losing the game. Sunday, they induced a double play and won the game.

A Hit with RISP

Andrew Heaney pitched well Sunday giving up 3 runs on 3 hits over 7 innings. He also struck out 10 which was nice to see. But what really mattered is that they won a game in which Heaney pitched. He always seems to get stuck with a good pitching game that gets no run support. Today he got a few runs and the win so I’m pretty pleased about that.

As far as hitting went, Justin Upton, the guy I complained had a .161 batting average with runners in scoring position, picked up a single to score the first 2 runs for the Angels. That started the comeback and it was topped off with home runs by Pujols and Ohtani. Batting only 3 for 17 since he came back from the disabled list it was good to see Ohtani knock one out. It was his first pinch-hit home run and showed that he’s a valuable contributor even when he is unable to pitch.

Even with the home runs, I think I’ve gotta give my Player of the Game to Upton who proved me wrong, or at least started to come outta his slump…hopefully. He only went 1 for 4 but those 2 RBIs really got the game moving in the Angels’ direction and I really want to see him start to turn his season around.

Today is a day off and I hope the team consolidates their elation from taking the Freeway Series and turns this into the start of a winning streak that sees them winning to the All-Star Game and beyond.
