Lightsabers, Justice Leagues, and a 5 to 4 Victory

Ramble #2: Lightsabers, Justice Leagues, and a 5 to 4 Victory

What a day it was with the new Star Wars trailer drop in the morning and the Nat’s 5-4 win to bookend the day. Oh yeah, I also took a look at which DC Comics to add to my pull list. On the whole, I’d say it was a pretty good day to ramble.

Making my Weekly DC Picks

Not only has DC be releasing fewer comics than Marvel, not as many have been reaching my “top comic” rating level with an average of 8.5 from 3 or more review sites. This week though, they did put together 2 issues that reached this level and I’m gonna select both for my pull list. Along with these, I want to follow along with the Drowned Earth story so I’m gonna grab those issues.

First off is Justice League #10
By Scott Snyder and Francis Manapul. This is part of the Drowned Earth event as we see Aquaman taking on a new villain calling itself the Flood while Wonder Woman learns that Cheetah has killed Poseidon. This event also includes another issue I want to read this week…Aquaman #41 by Dan Abnett, Vicente Cifuentes, and Lan Medina. And since this whole thing seems to have started with Aquaman #1 I think I’m gonna re-read that issue as well.

The second event book I’m pulling this week is related to The Witching Hour. Justice League Dark #4 by James Tynion IV, Alvaro Martinez, and Raul Fernandez represents the third part of this story and I’ve found myself enjoying the magical side of DC. Along with that I’m liking this team lead by Wonder Woman and from the looks of things, this series continues at least up to today with another dozen issues to come to DC Universe…I can’t wait.

The Last Trailer…

WoW! It’s hard to believe that it’s been so long…decades even…since the Star Wars saga began. And now it is reaching it’s conclusion. Or at least the closing act of the Skywalker story. I’m so excited, I’m rewatching the previous movies, yes – even the ones featuring Jar Jar – to get ready. While I’m sure you’ve all seen the footage, I wanted to stick the trailer here so I can come back to it easily when I want…

Game 1 to the Nationals

The first pitching duel of the series goes to Max Scherzer and the Washington Nationals as they take down Gerrit Cole and the Astros, 5 to 4. It was a good game with Houston striking first in the opening frame to go up 2 – 0 on a walk, a single, and a 2 out double by Yule Gurriel. But Washington came right back in the top of the 2nd with a solo home run by Ryan Zimmerman to cut the lead in half. What was supposed to be a pitching duel was turning into a hitter’s bonanza.

But Scherzer settled down and those 2 first inning runs were all he was gonna allow. Cole on the other hand gave up a second HR in the 4tht to Juan Soto and essentially fell apart in the 5th giving up 3 runs on a walk, 2 singles, and a double by the man who I think was MVP of the game…Juan Soto.

George Springer did his best to bring the team back into the game with a home run in the 7th and a run scoring double in the 8th, but it was not enough. Houston’s pitching just gave up too many runs for their offense to overcome. And it was all Cole who could not keep the Nats from touching home plate.

In any case, it was a good game…an expected pitching duel that got interesting, and the Nationals grabbed a 1 – 0 lead in the best of 7 series.

Strasburg faces off against Verlander tomorrow as the Astros look to even the series and once again both these pitchers are expected to dominate.

It’s a Wrap

A couple comics, a cool Star Wars trailer, and a pitching duel turned shootout…So many things going on right now, I’m glad I started back up with my rambling. I hope you enjoy it as well.
